Advice needed!!! Growing from seed

been growing with autopots for a while now using cuttings from a cheese mother we got. alls been good and still loving the cheese bongsmiliehowever wanting a bit of a change ordered the following seeds:
  • blueberry
  • pineapple chunk
  • tangerine dream
  • super lemon
  • ice cream
  • big buddha blue cheese
i was quite set on following my Grow bible on planting my seeds and have the greatest confidence in it, but after reading a number of threads in the forums decided to ask

what methods people prefered?

and

any cheeky bits of advice for growing from seed for the first time?

looking to keep the plants as mothers so any advice would be greatly appreciated

Many treads out there on how to start seeds, the choice is yours.
With so many seeds I would try one of each strain under one method and see how it works for you and your set up.
6 seeds would fit nice in small starter pots and if the method you use fails, you have many more chances at other methods, just don't start them all at once. (Provided you ordered more than one seed of each strain)
A damp, warm paper towel has worked for me for years then once cracked into the Styrofoam seed starter device with humidity lid.

I put a 65watt soft white cfl lamp on top of the clear dome and leave it turned on 24/7. As the seeds sprout above the surface I label them by strain and the first to pop up gets a #1 tag. Second one gets the #2 tag. Always good to tag them from birth or as early as you can for future studies of the strain and or mother/father plants.
Once sprouted they get replanted into 4" pots and put in the corner of the grow room for a few days them moved under the lights with the rest of the veg crew.
Works for me, it may not for you.
I grow in soil. Try some different things and see what works best. You could run multiple tests with all those seeds.
Good Luck!

I have had great succes starting seeds with the peat pellets. I prefer the extra large pellets from Jiffy that you can find at Walmart, Homedepot, and lots of other places. The extra large pellets are ment for tomato plants and they work amazing for popping seeds. Put them in a propagation tray and use at least a 4" or maybe a 6 or 7 inch dome with vents. and put a heating pad under the tray and keep it between 70 & 75 degrees. your seeds should pop in a couple days and in 4 or 5 days you should have nice little sprouts. I should have taken pics of the ones i just popped. after about 5 or 6 days they had their 2nd set of true leaves starting and the tap root was like 5 to 7 inches long with lots of side roots popping out the sides of the pellets. just popped 33 out of 34 seeds (all different brands). the 1 that didn't pop was really small and i am not suprised it wasn''t any good. It was a freebie seed anyway.

1 method that I used and I haven't changed since then is putting the seed into a shot glass of water and change it every 2 days till it cracks most of the time I had the seed crack with in 24 to 48 hours.
