i grow indoors using promix and bottled nutes and i was thinking of adding worm castings to my mix. I have a very sterile environment that i clean regularly and im worried about potential problems with introducing ewc. anyone out there have experience with using ewc indoors and can advise me with your experience? also thinking of mixing ewc and vermiculite for a seed starting mix. i have read about the advantages of ewc and seedlings and i want to maximise my germination rate for my extremely expensive seeds. thanks and blessings

Well ... PT Horticulture (www.pthorticulture.com) recommends to not add any dry amendments to their Pro-Mix line as they are all suppose to be ready out of the bag. If you want, contact them ( via online chat or email ... ) and see if worm castings are OK and what ratio they suggest.

Hope that helps.

You could probably use Some ewc and Some vermiculite for a seed starter mix, but 50% ewc 50% vermiculite would make a super, super dense, muddy, thick mess that would not be good for seedlings.

Lots of guys use EWC + Promix + More Aeration and do just fine, so don't worry! It's 100% doable and effective.

i just bought some seed starting mix and added ewc at about 60/40 and it seems to drain okay but it sure does suck up the water. i just direct planted some seeds into it yesterday but nothing has come up yet. i used to use straight promix and the paper towel method to start seeds but i felt like the perlite in promix damaged the root tip when i sowed seeds already cracked and direct planting into promix didnt work too well either. Im trying different sowing methods after a 40% germination of seeds from BCBD with the paper towel method. i tried some soaking in a cup of water, some in a paper towel and some in rapid rooters and some direct into my 60/40 seed starting/ewc mix. so far the best is the rapid rooters, they broke ground fastest when i put seed direct into rooter with no soak. i soaked some till the root popped and then into rooters but they havent come up yet though its only been two days. anyone have experience adding ewc to seed mixes for germination? ive recently read about the benefits but no experience.
