Aeroponic Cloning Questions

I've that's based off of https://www.rollitup.org/do-yourself/156863-grow-2-lbs-2-x.html.

I'm familiar with a few methods for cloning, but I'm wondering if there's a recommended method that might be specific to aeroponics.

I'm using 2" rockrool cubes in 3" net cups w/ hydroton. Ideally, I'd like to just place the clone directly into the aeroponic system...but I've heard people say that you should wait for the roots to develop, etc. It seems like you should be able to, if things like ez-cloner work. Thoughts?

Also, seperate question, what happens if nutes were introduced to the clones (if the tub had a mix of clones in different veg ages... I know this is not recommended, just wondering what the impact is)?

Is there a simple, reliable method that's recommended way for aeroponics?

Thanks :).

Ok i looked at the aeroponic tub you made it is a great one but why r u using rockwool ? basically that is a ezcloner just use it with the hydrotron
and if you have any nutes in it why? pour that shit out and just use water
in my ezclone i dont even PH the water and have roots in 7 to 10 days but i do use a lil heater
good luck

the rockwool will stay wet and will rot the stems. use the hydroton only. no nutes but i do use rooting powder on stems and cloning solution in the water

I personally use power cloner in the water... a VERY dilluted solution... I soak the clones in the solution for 3-4 hours first and then put them into the cloner. I pour the water from the soaking into the cloner and let it mix in with the water. Again... weak solution of power cloner.

I found that using gel cloner or powder cloner products dont work well in the aero systems. They wash off... perhaps other people have had better success than I have... but I just couldnt get it to go.

check out power cloner... oh... one more solution I use in the cloner water is a product called aqua shield. IT has bacteria in it that helps produce healthy roots. Bacillis.. I think is the name of the bacteria.

good luck. let us know how you do.

nutes cause delayed root development, get you the neoprene washers and forget the hydroton.I have a 25 site powe cloner snd its great........................Peace

I like the hydroton, because I've heard it will last longer (this box isn't just a cloner).

@guitarzan
Anyway, I am starting to understand that rockwool isn't needed for aeroponics set up...however, I've seen other use rockwool in DWC/aero setups... will it really rot/cause problems? I was under the impression it was more optional than bad.

@wyatte
Cool, I'll try that out. Do you have a recommendation on how much the solution should be diluted?

Thanks all.

Anyone? Mostly looking for confirmation that rockwool in aeroponic hydroton netcups = root rot/problems (based on guitarzman420's comment).

Thanks.

just use neoprene caps on your net pots, and let the roots hang free. I used to use hydroton, but now I am switching to neoprene caps, lets your roots get exposed to more oxygen!

Having issues with using aeroponic cloner. A week later and no action. Healthy 5-6" cuttings, water, superthrive, cloning gel, botanicare hydro solution, humididome.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

great fucking avatar man. ahhh what was i gonna say?
oh yah. lose everything except water no nutes no bs in aerocloner.just phd water 5.5-5.8
built myself one from stinkbuds plans and i love it. oh yah btw watch the stems. water can leach up the stem if the neoprenes are not tight i put a little 8 inch oscilating fan blowing on my clones on day two to keep any excess water dried up. no humididome either .roots 7-9 days almost every time. remember you dont want any nutes on clones UNTIL they show roots. if you go to stinkbuds "harvest a pound every three weeks "thread he gives very good instructions on using aerocloners. awesome thread really just enormous i actually read over 500 pages before i gave up and skipped to the end.
one more thing make sure temps don't get over 72-74 degrees in rez.
good luck

Thanks Joe! I didn't even think of dropping PH to what is more suitable for hydro. I am changing out the res water today so I will switch it to a more acidic solution and see what happens.

oh yah and rockwool is a bad idea in aeroponics it WILL cause you problems later.
i recently aquired some clones from a MM grower round here and they came in rockwool. i was scared to death @ the prospect of killing 200 buks worth of clones. but if you are careful you can peal the layers away from most of the roots and put back in aerocloner and they didn't miss a lick. sure i broke a few roots off but they didnt notice at all.
but i guess you don't even have roots showing yet do ya?
hmmm. i dunno honestly i wouldn't want to disturb any new root bumps but that rockwool WILL mess you up it has to go.
i guess i would be very careful and peel the layers of rockwool off one at a time.
just my 2cents

View attachment 1516355View attachment 1516354yes the rockwool will rot roots in aero as the spray/fog times are more frequent than ebb and flow and wil be too wet causing rot...

2in net pots with no bottom, neopreme collars and plain old water. if they want to eat they will grow roots... my timer is set for 1min on 5 off. digital timer, analog will not do such short cycles.

nutes slow root dev... plain water and 10 days or so youl have roots

Mine runs constant, no rockwool or baskets just the neoprene grommets to keep water from escaping. Timer seems to be a nice trick?

constant will drown cuttings, analog timers wont go below the 15 min set time, thats really too long but will work if you cant shorten cycle time. best to have short cycles so oxygen can work

Will give this one more shot. Tried again with 5.8 straight water on 24/7 lights and pump, no humididome. Defintely look healthier, hoping they will at least pop. Also added some H202 and it seems to be keeping water better for longer. I have still been changing every 3-4 days so far..... No pops in 6 days.

ive had the same water in my cloner for a month and only checked ph a couple times, both times too high.just dropped ph a few points and thats it. on round of clones just poppin roots. between 10 n 14 days on my strain, but its unheated except flo light. proly 70 constant give or take a couple. oh dont do strong lights they want weak light for rooting.

Man my water gets stagnant much faster than that... But the H202 is helping along with the lack of nutes. The light I'm using is an 8 bulb T-5 light in with my veg plants but the lights are a good 8-12 inches above the clones. Temp runs a pretty constant 72. I'm waiting.... And hoping.... LOL
