Air Stone Necessary?

Hello everyone, just a quick question.

I just started running a 4x4 drip system, and I've been reading a lot about putting air stones in the res.. is this necessary? And if so, where can I get one? Are the ones for fish at walmart okay, or do I need some special kind?

Yes you need one. Airstones stir and oxygenate the solution. The extra oxygen also kills pathogens keeping the solution sterile.

Yes, the ones for fish work fine.

airstones dont "run out" they can get clogged though... you have to buy an air pump to power the air stone

no they are not necessary. i havent used one in two years on my F/D table. i wouldnt think it would matter that you run a drip.
i started with airstones too then tossed em.

yeah i have a pump, and i thought that when the water was dropping back into the bucket with the pump, it would agitate it enough?

Necessary? No.

Helpful and relief at mind? Yes.

As long as you have that air pump pushing out to that drip system it's getting it's oxygen.

IMO, I would put one in the res. What, 10-15$ for pump and airstones? I like to keep things mixed (I run a RDWC) and keep that peace of mind.
