Alaskan Wild Amanita Muscaria

Started picking these beauties today. 8) Wild Amanita muscaria. Used for centuries in rituals in native Siberian cultures even here in Alaska. Viking culture and lore describe the religious use, such as they were. These, not psilocybin, are the true "Magic Mushroom" and are even displayed accurately in old world paintings from Russia and Scandinavia.

Starting dose of dried in any form (dried pieces, powder in gel caps) is around 8 grams for a 180-pound male in good health. Please - read about Amanita before running out and gobbling it. They can cause death supposedly although only one in the last 100 years. But be safe and read up. Like any other thing you ingest or take into your body.

Positive ID is a snap as only Amanita muscaria looks like it. No imitators with this one. Not even close.

Happy tripping!

Reviewers on other sites claim this blows psilocybin away with fewer unwanted side effects (never had any on shrooms but whatever). Read about them.

Believe it or not these are 100% legal. Try not to be a jerk gathering them and keep your mouth shut except among friends and let's keep it that way.

I'd be carefull with them mushrooms I read some where you need to know the right season to pick them cause they have a higher level of poison in them in a certain season I don't know too much about them but I would really read up on them before eating them.

A group of friends and I ate a bunch of these when we were teenagers. We ate them fresh, which was absolutely disgusting, and then I got stomach cramps for a few hours followed by the shits. No tripping involved and goes down as one of the stupidest things I did in my youth.

A bunch of fresh A.M. shrooms, $1.99. One bottle of pepto bismol, $3.99. Doing stupid shit when you're young and living to tell the tale, priceless.

I guess some people like this experience. I can tell you that I will never take them again. Although I got no stomach problems I did not enjoy the deleria that I experienced, and of course muscarine and muscomol (I think those are the active ingredients) have a narrow dosage window.

The only way I could see someone preceding AMs to psilocybin containing mushies is because they're masochists. Why were they used historically in Siberia? Because they were literally the only mind altering substance available. Notice the natural drugs that have stayed popular and have spread to other cultures are all generally considered recreational. Notice the ones that haven't generally aren't considered recreational? People smoke weed or eat mushies or peyote and say hey I like this and tell their friends. People eat some datura and want to kill the fucking sadist who told them it would be cool. It is wise to be leery of any drug you've never heard of , particularly if it is naturally occurring.

best if you make a tea with them. I always find them to be really pretty when i find them. The fairy ring they make is so far out.

Where did you partake of these? asking because they generally do not occur in the Lower 48 to the best of my knowledge except in the PNW.

Amanita ≠ P. cubensis.
Really? Had no idea. But, of course I do. I know they don't and the high is not the same or even similar. However, when they are parboiled they are eaten as table food in Europe and Russia. And the cost? Can't be beat.

They grow in abudance in Colorado above 9000 feet. I have several Russian and Czech friends, pretty sure they do not eat AM's. AM is for the shaman.

Uh, I'm not encouraging a single person to pick or eat these, OK? I only put a dosage start so those who will eat, smoke or shoot whatever didn't scarf a shoebox full. Yes, I know they are "poison". As a RN I wouldn't be surprised at how many meds people take that will kill them if taken incorrectly. They might be surprised - I am not. Most meds prescribed by your doc fall into the category "deadly if misused". As a matter of fact, I'll wait for somebody here to tell is ld50 on diphenhydramine and tell us where it can be bought and who uses it.

According to my handy dandy Merck Index the LD50 of diphenhydramine is 500mg/kg in rats. We don't determine LD50 values for humans because that would require killing humans to come up with a number. It's used primarily as an antihistamine but is also used as a sleep aid because of the drowsiness it and other first generation ethanolamine antihistamines cause. It is also a deliriant in larger doses and is abused for these effects by idiots who don't understand that just because something will make you intoxicated doesn't mean it will be an enjoyable experience.

Exactly and Benadryl is deadly to humans. except the ones who take it daily in increasing amounts. These individuals consume up to 10 times the maximum recommended dose. But, understand, the kids here are picking them right and left. And most adults here, while not approving, are very aware. I would think as a working RN I would know of any critical ingestions here. But I asked. None. So far. A couple cases of mushroom "hunter" eating a toxic mushroom but no amanita so far this year. The ER doc knew "that some people were taking them, yes".
