alternating vs. non alternating nodes?

I n a recent post I asked when My plants would be mature enough to put under 12-12 hps for flowering. I was told when the upper nodes become non-alternating. MY plants are well over a foot now, very bushy but the nodes are still alternating. They are a skunk strain feminizd. How much bigger are they gonna get before they are mature enough to flower?? THanks
