Alternative method of flushing plants

I ran into a small issue when trying to plan on flushing my plants. One of my 20 gallon barrels has Ice and blueberry, the blueberry will be done 2-3 weeks earlier then the ice so i hate to flush the whole barrel early. *Lesson learnedIMG_20180913_143446675.jpg

I've noticed that when taking clones and putting them in plain 6.0ph rainwater with slightly shaded cfl light that within a couple days the larger leaves start fading to yellow. I know this is because the plant is trying to get rootbound again but it makes me think...

Why couldn't I cut the blueberry at the base of the stem and literally just set it in a bucket of water upright in a shaded area and let it suck up the water and "flush" the nutrients out?

I'm planning on trying this with one just to experiment unless someone chimes in. I have looked online and have only seen peoples random opinions like Phil from Texas who says "naaw we don't flush em if it get us high then it's all good brother"
Personally I've had weed that wasn't flushed and I'll probably have it again but I'd prefer to have a smooth smoke

I think it will probably work albeit not as well. I think time may be an issue . How long you plan to leave it in the rainwater?
Personally I flush but a lot of guys on here think it's not necessary . I wouldn't sweat it so much.

I figured a minimum of 3-5 days or depending on the fan leaves losing color possibly more

Flushing itself is a complicated matter, and the results of flushing are often misinterpreted for the results of a properly grown plant that has been dried and cured properly. You can’t directly remove anything from a plants tissues by adding water to its root zone. That’s not how it works. Cutting the plant and keeping it in water further isn’t flushing at all in my opinion and only makes sense if you’re clipping roses and want to keep them in a vase.

Properly flushing soil isn’t effective because a vast majority of the nutrients are locked up in the organic compounds bound to the soil structure. If you’ve used a lot of chemical salts in your soil, a rinse can help loosen those water soluable salts only.

Through my sensory training in beer judging, I learned that people’s perceptions of taste and smell vary wildly depending on year, day, judging environment, what you had to eat that day etc. Taste and aroma are also subjective as some people have higher thresholds for flavour and aroma compounds meaning we all smell and taste things slightly differently.

Long story short, just because one day a flushed plant tasted better to you, doesn’t mean that a non- flushed plant will taste or smell bad to someone else.

Because you can't "Flush" the nutrients out. Think about it. If you cut the plant and stick it in water to flush the nutrients out where do they go? There is no flushing nutrients out of the plant. Just lower your feeding and eventually stop feeding altogether as the plant matures and get close to harvest. That allows the plant to use up what they might have stored. Just feed the plants plain water at the end. There is absolutely no need to flush unless you significantly overfeed and have turned your grow medium toxic. Over fertilized plants can't have the nutes flushed out of them. It doesn't work that way. By flushing all your doing is removing nutrients from the soil which can be done by tapered feeding, not over feeding to begin with, and plain water at the end. Your plant will be happier than it will be after having gallons of water dumped on it and it's roots are sitting in soggy soil drowning.

Hate to sound like some cocky know it all since I'm a rookie but I've done a few "experiments" and It looks like you are incorrect sir, cutting the stem and putting it in water works! After about a week of sitting In Water the aroma changed from "plant" or "green" to the actual smell of the strain and also the fan leaves have started to fade to yellow

Reminds me of @RM3's trick, "girdling".
Basically the idea was to ring the main stalk with a razor just enough to stifle nutrient uptake but not sever the ability to get water.
Seemed hella risky, so I've never tried it....
This seems a simpler option.

Remember that your own experimentation does not mean someone else is incorrect. Your data suggests a positive result for you.

I would rather just harvest when she’s ready as per the trichomes and not stress the plant out. In a week I would be in jars curing anyway.

My $0.02
P.S I will try this in the name of science. I will post pics and see/smell before during and after the dry and cure.

Girdling is what they used to do to drop trees. They would cut a ring deep enough to stop water and nutrient uptake all the way around and in about 10 months to a year when you come back it's dead. I'd never heard of it for pot. I'll have to do some research on it, it sounds like it could have some merit. Then again my hands shake so bad a razor blade on the stem is probably not too good of an idea for me.

Wow, after all these years and legal states I would have thought that the myths and nonsense would have died LOL

Since I'm the guy that wrote the truth about flushing I won't get into that but stopped in to properly share what girdling is/was. Note: I did not invent it :)

Twas how gold buds were made back in the day

The one I came up with is called brown bushin

/\ Legal weed is disgusting because it's not flushed and people are getting stupider year by year. Have you even been to a pot shop? Tell me that shit tastes good.. Then we can diagnose your mental state. Its unflushed and tasted like shit because of it.

Flushing isn't extracting anything from the plant, its keeping it from being sucked up. Some assholes like to play word games. And others like to waste money. Reality has nothing to do with those two groups.

Why are people playing fucking stupid about this. Vasing works. Nutrients aren't being removed they are being consumed and not replaced with more. Flushing is allowing that to happen. A starved plant is a flushed plant quit acting retarded everyone.

Quick question, you're saying not feeding a plant or not allowing nutrients to be consumed makes weed taste better right?
Then plants grown in hydroponic systems would be better tasting than soil grown plants. How does one remove the organic material from soil so it's not absorbed? In hydro you empty the rez, and fill it with water and presto.
