Am I doing it right??? Any suggestions/comments appreciated

This is my first grow , only growin indoors for 4-6 weeks then then plants go outside. Any feedback positive or negative. If its negative tho explain so i can learn!!!
Got 3 germed seeds in there in jiffy pellets. random seeds that came with my order another 12 or more germs to come.

got 1 23w 6500k cfl
2 60w blue cfl
And a aluminum foil covered box with airholes
Trying to be as stealthy as possible this is behind a couch in my bedroom

With cfl's your going to need the lights alot closer, about 2-4 inches. you plants will really strech if its to far away. you'll also wants those holes covered up when its lights out. You dont want any light seeping in.

ditch the foil, i don't think it helps much

no using of foil, it could burn ur plants, i know u want to go on the cheap so use nothing or some kind of white background, even if u lined it with white copy paper, that would be better then the foil. like other poster said, keep lights close, as soon as about 10 days, start blowing a fan on ur girls, good luck on ur grow

what should i use as lining? Plastic window sheeting or something? And thanks for the tips guys

People nix the foil cause it can burn your plants if you are using HID lighting witch you are not so go ahead and use the foil, it blocks light like nothing else. I think you are gonna need a taller box though.

ya this is just a starter got a red blue led pad coming for flowing/late veg. also adding more 6500ks a 2700k. got blue cfls for veg to use them or no?

-when you have the lights that close you do not need to line it...
-get some sterile soil and you're all set...

You can use the emergency blanket out of a first aid kit. Those work just as good as mylar

changed to 4 6500k and 2 2700k 24hrs, also everything seems to be ok for now, but i am new to this, in this type of setup SO.... how often should i water, i got a miracle gro 20-20-20 what strength should i use and how often, also what should my light cycles be and on what timeframe??? also when should i come off the fertilitzer? Now i know smell is not gonna be a factor yet but when will it be and what can i do to keep smell down. cant vent to the outside of my house it will be too cold and kill everything. Now the box is in my closet, in three weeks my attic should be done and they can go in a crawspace and my bedroom will go to the attic.

Watering, When they are dry water them then pick up the pot, feel the weight?
Now you know how heavy it is when they have water. I water every two or three days.

Light cycle, 18 on and 6 off during veg, give them 24hrs dark to stimulate flower then 12/12 to finish.

Feeding, The best way I have found to feed is to watch the color of the leaves. There's nutrients in the soil already and that will keep them green while they are small but once they get bigger the will start to yellow, That's when I start feeding. Miracle grow is extremely strong. Don't start with more then 1/4 strength. then later don't go over half strength. Water between feeding. You probably will go over anyways, when you see the tips burn back off. When you are ready to flower water the hell out of them till it leaks out the bottom this helps flush out the grow nutes flip to 12/12 give them a week or two then start bloom nutrients.

Co2, fermentation is the cheapest way to go, some sugar yeast and water in a small container that open at the top.

ok my first seed is starting to grow out of the soil but they got cold last night when the lights were off not cold enough to freeze but they were chilled in the morning hopefully they will bounce back. They are now in the stairwell to my attic which can be heated by the lights but when they go out it cools fast is there a good way to keep it at an ok temp or should i just leave my bedroom door open when the lights go off (assuming my lights are also dark so i dont mess up their light cycle). il start posting pics tonight assuming that sprout pulls thru. Fingers crossed.

If you have a heating pad that would work with some insulation, or maybe an old receiver or something you can plug in and set the girls on top.

i dont have one but i left a space heater in the stairwell on low and cracked my door into the stairwell so they may get cool at night but not cold

ok so the seedlings seem to be hanging in the balance still green but not growing, the jiffy pellets are pretty damp so i think im just gonna let them dry under the light a bit. Now what can i transplant them to between jiffy pellets and outside so i can get them in some soil but still keep things small. should i just go buy small jiffy pots? any guidance would be great.

Good idea, you dont want them too wet. The cold temps will slow them down too. like below 50°
I haven't used jiffy pots before but by looking at them I see they are made out of a cardboard of sorts, I wonder if when you go to transplant the roots would stick to the sides. I would grab a few of those little green 4 in pots and use those. You can grow a plant to about a foot tall with those and they slide out easy for transplanting.

ok great i also forgot to ask what kind of soil should i get i need something easily available ( like wally world) a hydro store or even a nursery that is reasonably well stocked in feb is nonexistent in my city couldnt even get a heating pad except offline (which i did order)

I would look for Fox Farms Ocean forest but for now just about any potting soil will do. house plant stuff (veg) not bloom stuff (for flowers) they will be past it in no time. Be careful with those heating pads, I had one on low and still needed to prop a tray 1/2 in above it with a towel between it to get my girls to stay at 70° A hygrometer is a good idea. get one online for like $10 it gives you an external sensor you can stick in the soil, registers temp there, then external temps and humidity.
