I am attempting to set up a grow in a closet about 3'x3' (at most) I have already gone through 30 germinated bagseeds (not all at once) planting them in organic soil under 4 23 watt 6500K cfls, 2 65 watt 4100K cfls, and 2 55 watt 2700K cfls and I keep them moist but not over saturated and I wait and wait and wait and never get any sprouts. I have tried mixing a small amount of 20-20-20 in for growth and still nothing. I am using city water from the faucet that i put in an unopened container and let set out for 1-2 days to rid of some unwanted chemicals. Could it be the water? Seeds? I dont understand whats going on. Thanks for any help.
Am I doing something wrong?

I noticed you said 30 "germinated" seeds, did you really germinate them. The 3 days under a wet paper towel in darkness? Just trying to help, cause I have almost never had one not sprout after it was germinated under paper towels.
Depending on how long your taproot is, you actually plant them taproot up. This is because they curl around the seed pod and down.
If they are already curly when you plant them, then the taproot will point down but the pointy part of the seed where the taproot comes from will be pointed up.

Ok I see what you are saying. I have been putting them in upside down so I will change that. Still though out of 30 wouldnt atleast a few sprout? I had a successful grow about a year or two ago when I lived in a different state and I have recently moved and I know the water is different here and that was why I was asking questions about it possible being the water. I just cant figure it out.
Regarding your tap water, if it was "bad" for plants your city would be covered in dead plants. That's seems logical to me anyhow...
How about your soil? Is it loose enough, and not sandy and compacted?
You can put your seeds right under the surface of the soil, it doesn't have to be 1/2" deep. Maybe try a more shallow burial too...

Yea that seems logical. I am going to be retrying again so I will make sure soil is loose and I will try the shallow burial. I think some of the problem in the beggining was I was scared to overwater and the soil was drying out everyday and not just the top I mean all the way down so I believe some of the first seeds may have dried out.
I like to water the container like a day or 2 before the seed goes in, I water it thoroughly and then it dries out a bit. This way I know it's moist all the way to the bottom but not too wet -- too wet will make it difficult for the taproot to punch thru. Good luck man!
