Am I Expecting Too Much Too soon?

I need some advice. I germinated 10 Gage Green seeds Super Blue Dream x Inferno Haze). Regular seeds not fem.

My setup is a 4x2 Hydro Hut. Running a 4 foot 8 bulb T5 system with Quantum Tri Phosphor bulb. Got the 4 in fan and 4 in. Phresh filter. Had to order a small oscillating fan via Amazon as i cannot find locally. Should arrive tomorrow.

Temp stays about 76-77 and RH runs from 30-42.

Started with peat pots but on advice from forum went to plastic solo type setup.

Initially very leggy but transplanted to plastic with Miracle Gro seed srater potting mix (very loose and airy).

Now I transplanted just 5 days ago. A couple of the seedlings are toast but I'm leaving them for now. Miracles do happen, don't they.

One seedling has just pooped second set of leaves. Others have not.

They are all pretty small. Largest seedling is maybe 2 inches tall.

I have lights literally an inch or so from plants.

Some pots are moist some seem bone dry up top and feel light. I think i killed a couple with kindness, too much water.

As a newbie I am concerned about too little water.

Here are a couple of pics. Maybe i am expecting too much too soon. Should they be bigger a week out of the gate? They are sooo small.

My biggest concern is winding up with only one or 2 females.

Thanks for lookingDSC01165.jpgDSC01164.jpgDSC01166.jpgDSC01167.jpg

Notice difference in soil wetness from pic 1 and pic 4. Sorry for poor quality of pics.

i cant really tell whats goin on in the 3rd pic either
btw u can drown them, i rummage my fingers through the first 1-2 inches, if its still prty dry ill water, also try lifting your pots
they can go awhile without water, when i first plant i soak the medium til runoff and they stay good for nearly a week
also i dont grow with t5's but that seems close for they age

Thay mg starter stuff should be used in those popsicle style seed starting trays. Not solo cup size. That stuff is weak sauce. You need some boost when that things roots find the edge.

Turn off half of your t5 setup right now. A sprout that size doesnt need more than a flashlight to live. Fuck off is what it told me to tell you. Run at 50 % on quantum bad boys at most right now. One bulb would be enough for those at 8 inches.

Everything I have read on the forums says with T5 keep them close and the more light the better or they will stretch.

No disrespect but are you sure about your suggestion? Ever use T5 yourself.? I do not want to cut down lumens and have them stretch again !!!

Anybody care to chime in on this ??

t5's are great for seedlings. i use em. heat will also stretch out seedlings. watch the temps. i think you'll be ok. you may have to water every day because the roots don't extend too deep. what i saw in your pix looked good so far. keep updating with pix, i'll stop back.
...edit, and don't feed anything yet.

Appreciate it. Yeah, i thought the idea of cutting lights was not a good idea.

I'll maintain all 8 (440 watts) for now. That's only like 40,000 lumens and seems reasonable. i'm a bit disappointed that I seemed to have lost a couple but so be it.

Mg soil wonthave enough nutrients fot you seedlings to thrive and seedlings dont need too much light for first week or so

Dannyboy above speaks the truth,, water seedlings a little every day but not enough to drown them, after 2 or 3 weeks of daily watering, start letting the compost dry out a bit before watering again. biggest danger with seedlings that don't have an established root system is drying them out, the stronger the light, and the higher the temps, the more transpiration will dry them out quickly. good luck
