Ive been having issues with sugar ants setting up shop in my buckets. I could use some advice on how to keep the damn things away.

Ants....your not gonna keep them out of the pots if u dont find where they are coming from and kill the colony. Ants never give up lol. they DO however always follow the same path to and from where they are going, so if you follow one or a few back from the pots you will find where they come from. put some ant traps with the queen/colony poison, and try some of the Diatomaceous earth i think its called. its like a powder, no pesticides, its abrasive to bugs but safe for plants. use it as a perimeter defence.
Ants are the scourge of my gardening life. A lone ant is not smart, but 10 000 ants are very good at problem solving as a group, you gotta kill the 'leader' lol
another thing you can do is out something they like better than the dirt, like a bottle, with a funnel top, put a bit of Really sticky syrup in the bottom and all around the insides. the ants will love it, go inside, stick to the 'glue' and and the ones that dont stick wont have an easy time getting out because of the funnel top you so artistically made.
Or just grab some raid, put on a shoe and start sprayin and stompin'.:joint:

Just you wait until they start training the aphids in your area to leap on your plants, turning your plants to honey dew that the ants just love the taste off ....lol true!!!
