Any electricians out there

What would happen if I put a 1000W HPS light bulb in a socket rated for up to 150W incandescent bulb would it catch on fire.

Don't. Just don't. Mains electricity is serious shit, that can kill a brother, or burn your house down. The ratings on bulbs, sockets, plugs etc are all there for your own safety, and of those unfortunate enough to be around you.
Not to mention that HID bulbs require a ballast to limit the current flow to what the bulb can safely handle.
I'm seriously worried that you had to ask a question like that. I wouldn't like to live next door to you...
