So im new at growing and I get some cuttings that have grown to 5-9 inches. Im using t8s on them now but I want to put some fire under them. I have some in flower under 1k hps and thats where I want these to go. ( the flowering ones came to me ready to flower and the 1000 watt lights came too :) but starting fresh with the little ones under t8s I want them to be ready for the flower room when the current ones are done. There loking good but not coming up as fast as I think they could be with MH

I dont really want to go with t5s but if its better then the setup In the link I may do so. THe thing about getting the cheap 400 set up is I can use it later since in the summer I will be working and getting a good set of lights. I figured i could incorporate this one later may get it in a cool tube.

So any thoughts? stay with t8s? go t5's? :( or get a cheapy like this? also if anyone knows where I can get something ie a sight or a good light for around 150 let me know !!! thanks!!!

Here is one I am looking at. its mh or hps plus its dimmable

not too bad for the price.. closest thing i really found, didnt look very hard, is from HTG supply.
was $185 but didnt come with the mh conversion bulb

i use HO T5 to veg, and i love them. and are better than t8 IMO

2 options in your price range. and then if you need extra lighting in flower. $7 red spec bulbs.

I propagate under T5 but you can use T8. After clones are rooted for 1 week I will put them under MH. Seedlings I'd get then to 3-4 inch befor MH.

They won't be ready.
Keep them alive with what you have, pot them to bigger pots once moved to the 1K light and raise the light to around 1m high.
Let them veg for 2 weeks and lower the light every few days once they seem to be able to handle it.

Otherwise you would risk burning their chlorophyll or just shock the crap out of them which would stunt the flower formation, which you don't want.

If you want to keep the flow you'll need at least a 400W MH sitting pretty damn close to the plants but I believe that in most setups the above method will be much more economical.
