Any tips for first try at 10 gallon tote DWC?

Hey guys, as the title states im going to have my first go at a soilless setup. Ive got 2 - 5 inch net pots in one tote lid with 2 - 12 inch air stones siliconed at the bottom. I also have hydroton for the pots.

As far as watering/feeding, what I've understood is to change out water once every 10-12 days? And how do i go about introducing nutes? Ive learned to go easy but how is a good way to make sure they're getting enough without having to wait until the problem is there? Which by the way I have earth juice grow, bloom and microblast. And for others i have hydroguard for root conditioning and calmag.

Any help or tips are appreciated.

Oh yeah, for a room ive got a 4x4x8 with a 600 watt hps. I just sowed 2 dutch passion durban poison seeds. Anyone tries thise in a hydro setup? Id like to hear some stories! Haha.

unless you truly are a masochist. lol.

organics and dwc don't play well together.

if you want a simple 1 part nute, go with either GH floranova bloom or GH maxibloom. use from start to finish (veg and bloom)

Ordered a little combo pack of the maxibloom. Has a bag of maxibloom grow and bloom. Thanks for the tip.

I personally don't care for maxibloom... but with that being said I've also seen plenty of people use it successfully. Give it a try and see how it performs since you've already ordered it. YMMV.

As the plants get larger and the roots take a foothold in the DWC container, it'll be very important that you monitor water levels, PH, and EC levels daily. These fluctuations aren't as common in RDWC's, but in a single DWC container with 7, 8, maybe 9 gallons of water... swings are more common because of less water volume.

Keep your PH between 5.8 to 6.2.

1.0 - 1.2 EC is a happy spot for me with vegging plants. 1.3 to 1.4 is my happy spot with flowering plants. Seedlings will do great in a slightly lower EC of .6 to .8

I saw you'll be using Hydroguard as well, which is good since it has bacillus amyloquifaciens that helps combat pythium. But as the other guy said - if you can just keep water temps below 70F than you should be good.

Changing out the water 1x per week is probably a good starting point. I wouldn't do it anymore than 1x per week, but I also wouldn't wait 2-3 weeks to do it either. I run a flood and drain with a 20 gallon res. I can go weeks with just topping up, but typically won't let it go more than 14 days without a res change.

no problem. i think you'll like them. i don't use the maxi gro personally. i'd do something like maxigro for veg, a mix of the 2 for your first 2 weeks of 12/12 and then maxibloom for the rest of bloom.

works for me too in this range. maybe a bit lower for seedlings.

The water temp should be no problem and thanks for the reassurance on the ph levels, thats the same ive been hearing haha. Cool idea for the res. Ill probably get into making one as well once i get comfortable.

That Earth Juice pH Natural Down gave me tons of problems, and I had to flush each time I used it because I would get suds in the soup. For me, it was really unpredictable and I went back to the GH pH adjusters.

Thanks for the tip. I do use the gh drop ph tester though. I do love that stuff

You mean the drop tester that changes color? I use mine to occasionally test my water if the pH pen is giving an odd reading. Always dependable

Hydroguard! Good chemical to have on hand. Dwc and hydro gets root problems easy. A little bit of light or cold res a few times you will be fighting root rot the whole time. Hydroguard is a positive bacteria that helps prevent and will turn dead roots into food for the plant

I love hydrogaurd but I just started using this, it’s freaking amazing. U should check it out my dude. 15 different bacteria in it.

For sure i am. Just got done with a harvest that was wrecked with root problems as soon as flowering hit. I saved it twice but the third was enough and had to chop early. I will def use it regulary
