anybody else use a parabolic?

Just looking to hear what people feel about them anymore.

I just bought one, parazontal paired up with an adjustable wing. It worked wonders in my garden especially with the strain variation and being perpetual. But they finish last half of flowering under it. Bulb is vertical.

Dont mean to hijack the thread, but what did you think of that strain? I wanted to try Medman, but was up in the air between Silver Skunk and Vancouver Green Crack... I choose the VGC because I love JOTI PK, and heard that is what was used for the cross.

Medman aka white rhino is the bomb.

And he's growing a cross not the pure strain

Parabolic reflectors are great if you can manage the heat. That's their only disadvantage I think.

FYI, I have several completed grows using Poly's BrandX seeds

My last was looking damned good until I stupidly flushed with Sea Crop minerals

At only 200 ppm it dehydrated the buds in < 40 hours and turned what was about to be an outstanding result into airy result

That aside, lots of folks have enjoyed the smoke- WH X WW pollinated with BG

Perhaps. I keep a box fan pointed at each light, so there is heat but it's not contested.

Imo, if it's too hot in your grow you either have to many lights or it wasn't properly designed

the parabolic actually helps to keep the temps down overall in growing areabut you are right the hood does create a pocket of heat above it. But like I said its all about design. I've learned some useful things mostly from failing. But now days I can put 2000w in about any adequate space(30-40 sqrt for 2000w) open bulb, and no ac.

The parabolics I've used always run hotter than a comparable air cooled hood on it's own cooling loop. Not every situation can get away with using AC. That being said, parabolics give much better, and more even light distribution, Especially with vertical bulbs.

I did however see a thread some time back about a guy who drilled six inch vent ports into his parabolic reflectors in order to air cool them. I just wondered if that effected his light out put at all after taking away a reflective surface.

I don't use ac. I make it a point when designing that direct ac will never be nneeded.

I liked my air cooled hoods and tubes for a while, but increase in yield made it worth it. Plus its less high watt fans, . Money spend on ducting and tape and less to worry about should a fan fail.

I would never cut up a parabolic, maybe remove a panel but not only the loss of light, but I could just buy an air cooled hood. I keep the heat above the hood, and have a box fan blowing up into it
