Anyone use KIS Organics?

They have a coots mineral mix and the 17.5 CF soil kit it sounds too cheap to give u a cup of everything per 1CF.

Anyone use this?

Never used it, but Tad Hussey is one of my favorite podcasts. I'm willing to bet that he uses sulfates instead of rock dust. What I mean is Manganese sulfate, iron sulfate, copper sulfate, and similar things used in TM-7. You would only need grams of this stuff instead of cups...

I just looked at the list and I was wrong. However, gypsum and calcium carbonate are not expensive. BAS is def overpriced if that is who you are comparing it to. Jeremy from BAS might know some stuff, but he is turning into Advanced Nutrients of the organic world.

I emailed them and this is what they had to say.

Thanks for reaching out. The Coot's mix for 3.5 cubic ft would be the following mix:
For Mixing in Soil (per cubic foot):

1 cup Crustacean Meal

1 cup Kelp Meal

1/2 cup Neem Cake

1/2 cup Karanja Cake

1 cup Basalt

1 cup Gypsum

1 cup Calcium Carbonate (Ag Lime)

Apply at a rate of 2 cups per cubic foot or approximately 1/4 cup per gallon of the mix when mixing soil.

It would come fully mixed in the above ratio and then you would get 2 cups per cubic ft. So for the 17.5 cubic ft mix it would be a total of 35 cups of the mix, along with the malted barley for top dressing.

This is what he told me. Which doesnt make sense seeing as coots mix is a 1/2 cup per CF for the amendments and 4 cups pet cf for the dusts. Also no oyster shellflour

You're right about the ratio's, they aren't using nearly the amount of rock dust that Cootz recommends. I'd just see what you can source locally, add up the price for everything, then compare to this plus the extra rock dust you need, see which comes out on top.

I ended up getting Wiggle Worm Soil Builder castings 5 30# bags, 7 CF rice hulls and 2 3CF bags of CSPM for $130

I may just buy my own and mix so I can do teas with the leftovers

Just an fyi, Kis had Oly mountain fish compost...you can get it other places too. That stuff is just amazing, if you can find it for a decent price, always a good addition. You got some good stuff! I like rice hulls

Yeah I didnt realize they screwed up and rang me up for 15# bags instead of 30#.

I read to not use only rice hulls for aeration though cause it breaks down. So gonna try and find some pumice. Throw a couple CF worth in place of rice hulls

Just checked and that fish compost sounds good. But its $45 to ship 1 CF. Turns $15 into $60 real quick. Too steep for me

yeah, that's the downside, thought I'd mention incase you had a good spot for stuff locally. Pumice is awesome too, and you can always just add more pumice in the future when the rice hulls compost.
