Aquaponics, need fitting help.

I want to "stack" two 10 gallon aquarium tanks for a lab aquaponics. Drill a 1/2" or 3/4" hole with Diamond hole saw 3/4" away from corner.

I'd like to find a proper fitting to create a seal to prevent leaks but also be able to fit a 3/4" pvc into the hole

Here is a picture from someones aeroponic rail system with a fitting I think would work but I don't know the name of it.

Can anyone name the fitting the pvc elbow is in?

its called a grommet, for glass its a ring with a split in it to fit the glass.. go to lowes and tell the guy your doing a glass table and you need a few gromets for the screw holes .

A grommet for a screw will not hold a 3/4" PVC section. But a grommet is indeed what the OP is needing.

I think its called a bulkhead fitting....any plumbing store will have one.

A true bulkhead fitting is 2-piece at least and is threaded. Watertight. Grommets are leak resistant if made of the right material and properly fitted to the opening and the tube passing through it. But not watertight. Thanks that's helpful.

When you go to the hardware store find a pvc male connector with threads that will fit through the hole you want to drill. Find the female connector as well. When you thread the two together it will create a bulkhead. Wonder over to the orings and find a couple that will seal around the edges of the threads. Garden hose orings work with 1/2" pvc threads if I remember correctly.

Also, there is a sterilite container at walmart that sits on top of ten gallon tanks like it was mounted to rails. Grab a ten from the fish section and wonder over to the tubs with it. Find one that fits well on top of the ten and it is much easier to drill into than another aquarium.

Thanks I had picked up a 3/4" grommet yesterday, but they didn't have any diamond hole saws at a price point I wanted. I think the bulkhead fitting is what I wanted in the first place. I will check out the sterilite containers today/tomorrow. No big rush on this project. Thanks again for all the great info/advice. When I get everything going I will update with some pics.

Use a carbide tipped bit. Slow drill speed. Use valve grinding compound as an abrasive. If you can lay the glass horizontal you can use window putty to build a well to hold your drilling mud. Water mixed with a lot of valve grinding compound (available at any auto parts store) allows you to drill through glass. Do not pressure the drill. Keep the well filled with your drilling compound.
