Are big buds a good thing?

I've always removed young flower sites and super crop along with lollipopping to try to get really big buds in a sea of green. But on my last Harvest when I trimmed and manicured the deeper bugs inside the big buds are a little lighter in color. It's safe to say a bigger bud would be more likely to have mold when drying right? Also, when I manicure the big buds into smaller buds I see that it's not really a big butt but just a bunch of buds grown in together and I noticed the buds in the center seem to be a little lighter in color. Are these inside bugs less mature? Any downsides to large colas, aside from yield? Pics attached. IMG_20160922_194928317.jpg

Big buds = big stalk, more likely to get mold, Longer to dry and cure, less bag appeal,

Eh can't tell turn on flash if possible looks like it could've been with the Browning but pic too blurry. Either way just try and keep good environment and plenty of air movement

A smaller bud will have more surface area exposed to light compared to its volume. So I imagine that's why when I reduced a large bud into smaller buds the side of the bud exposed to light seems more mature whereas the side of the bud scrunched up against other buds seem lighter. Is this assumption correct? Do people ever desire smaller buds for this reason?

As stated, you would just have to be extra vigilant on keeping the humidity in check and borderline "overkill" air movement

on the contrary, big buds are a good thing, just that for many strains, it will be more productive to top and have many top colas rather than a single stem. when mold becomes an issue, it means that you are growing buds big enough, congrats, get a dehumidifier and move on

What I'm saying lol gotta prepare for big buds if not why grow? Lol and those aren't even that big they shouldnt have an issue

I'm not sure if anyone is getting what I mean. Yes big bud = bigger yield usually. But when i pull apartt the buds on the other side of the bud that doesn't get light is like a light lime green color with less amber trichomes. and my theory or concern is that the buds inside the bigger buds seem less developed.

Well ya I mean the inside of the bud is almost always a lighter green and the outside always more developed. I wouldn't be concerned your bud in pictures looks fine like a nicely developed bud

Thank you. I just needed to know if this was experienced by everyone or a completely different issue. So I guess it's personal preference. If yields were equal I'd prefer medium sized buds so that the entire bud gets light and matures uniformally. This is a seperate issue but I noticed your name is Adam king. Have you ever grown the non hybridized 100% Afghani strain? I did and it was just awful. I'm not talking about crosses like Afghan Kush and other hybrids, but the original Afghan just came out terrible.

Ya dude, i know exactly what your talking about. Ive had the same problem. When Those long colas get picked apart the buds are lime to yellow color, almost white sometimes. Youre right with your theory about the lack of light producing less chlorophyll in the caylexes. They are quite off putting to look at but in my experience they still have the same narcotic effect as the outside buds. Id say carry on and dont worry about it unless theyre terrible looking. Nice cola btw, its huge.
