Aurora Indica: Should it be this simple?

I am still not sure if I will turn my first grow into a fully documented grow journal but I will give you guys a little background on the three seeds that are working so far...

I have plenty of experience in growing plants. From tending rose gardens to growing my own food. Still there are so many growers here that have had so many problems that I thought these plants would be ridiculously tempermental and not grow unless prayed to everyday! Such is not the case.

2 weeks ago, I made 2 purchases after about a month of research. The first was the Buds for Less by SeeMoreBuds and the second was 10 Aurora Indica seeds from Nirvana. First off, I want to say that the descrete nature of the packaging took me completely by suprise... I could have sworn I got gyped before I saw the seeds!

Anyhow I finished my shift at work and set up 3 seeds in a paper towel and wet the towel to the point where there was just a little standing water. I used a half drunk bottle of water (Deja Blue) that was sitting in my room. ( So, for all you new growers running around frantic, You can use just about any water excluding fresh tap water and nuclear reactor coolant!) I set the wet seeds on top of my cable box in between 2 saucers and went to sleep. Less than 10 hours later, all 3 seeds had popped! I wasted no time in putting them, white-tip-down into some old Jiffy peat pellets I had that never sprouted lavender seeds last spring. I put the hood on the Jiffy tray after getting the pellets moist but not sopping, then I rested a 26w warm white CFL on the hood and have left it alone. 1 day later I saw the seed poking out from the ground and ran into a bit of mixed feelings... "Certainly seeds don't sprout that quickly! Maybe the watering I did washed some dirt off..." Oh I was wrong, kind sirs and ma'ams! This morning I went to check the tray and was greeted by a healthy shock of green in one of the pellets. The other two have yet to show out, but I am confident they will. But keep in mind that this is 2 days after my seeds arrived! Ya'll think the Devil has invigorated my seeds?

To all you cannaporn junkies out there, I am in the middle of charging my camera up so you should be seeing my first baby pictures after I get home from school. I look forward to all the amazing things I can do with these little beauties!

Any name Ideas? The early bird has already got a name chosen but will only be dubbed after the true leaves show. (call me cautious)

Dont get too excited....you still have a loooooooong way to go. I get almost 100% of my seeds to the point you're at.

I think sometimes people get caught up in the details, myself included. Now that I have had some successful grows under my belt I realize that this is just a weed. No worries. It is all good. I have seen many great grows without constant monitoring and expensive controls and meters. No mylar walls, no CO2 injection. It is just a weed. That said, I wish you luck on your grow. The biggest problems that I have seen around here is over watering and too much nutrition too soon. People kill them with too much of the wrong kind of attention.

my first grow(harvested just weeks ago) was AI from nirvana, i got the 10 pack, germed 5 and 2 were fems, sold 3 to friend and 1 was fem, germed last 2 and 1 was fem, and is doing GREAT outdoors even tho i planted july 1st, its budding nice now, I think AI is a perfect first grow strain, but i have nothing to compare it to, but it was TOO EASY with AI, seriously, i nuted the SHIT out of those plants, and they took it with stride, and just kept on beefing up in a cfl box and i got 10 ounces dry weight of some of the BEST if not the BEST smoke i have ever smoked, and ive been smoking for 6 years now so thats saying something. I smoke a 1 pap and mycheeks are caving and im rubbing my hair against my couch cause it feels so good, i dont know what the fuck to do, im like stupidly high again. so good luck with your grow man hope you get to where im at.

I'm sure you know by your other gardening experiences that too much attention will end up with poor results. People forget it's a weed and quite hardy. Find the rythym of this plant and the rest will be a cake walk compared to roses.

Brilliant! Thanks for the good vibes and I certainly hope that my three little babies have at least one girl. I am not sure if I will be able to make those kinds of yields but I think I have the space for about 4 clones and a mom and I can always sell the rest to a small but loyal following. I hope I can begin to approach where you are at!

EHarmony420 - I am excited to see them too! I have smoked the same brickweed for the past 3 months now and I have never had anythin better than that... I hope that I will love indica too! If I get visuals with AI like I get with my current stash, I will have found my friend for life!

CrackerJax - Excellent advice. I am all about a plant that likes to be left alone! I think that my tone for this grow will be a little more ghetto than anything hi-tech just to prove it can be done without a lot of fuss. Thanks for the reminder! I tend to underwater more than I over water. And the extra attention that I will be giving it will probably be staring at it...

Wow, this is all very encouraging for me. I have 10 Aurora Indica seeds in the mail right now and am currently working on a clost CFL grow. Not sure if I can use HPS for flower or not. I was also a bit worried about this strain being not very good for a first grow but you have given me confidence. I will likely be starting some sort of journal for mine.

Hey everyone! I am glad that I have some watchers... A few eyes on my work may ensure success, but for now, its my time to dote on my first sprout. A name has already been chosen for this one but I won't be dubbing it until I see some more leaf growth. Still in the iffy zone, I think.

A side note - I had no idea my camera was this good! I will be taking quite a few update shots for you guys considering it was so easy to do.

Helmoid - I hope that you will get the same sense of excitement and slight trepidation that I have every time I think of my new hobby! Oh and when you first open your envelope and see not one single seed... Don't panic! Just look closer and marvel at how creative they were in hiding them! For about 2 and a half seconds I was furious!

What is a 1 pap? Is it a lot of bud? At this point I am still going with about a 1/4 oz per month... I am not sure how much more or less I will burn through once my crop comes out of cure... sadly I still have to buy my shit, but not for long!

Oh and I am noticing that the new leaves are pointing almost straight up towards the light. I am guessing that they just do that... Still waiting for my othe two to push through.

Did anyone else get the fantasies of becoming a CannaBaron with their first grow? I am sure I will not get too much more than 3 oz per plant though... Looks like it would be a small barony...

I dont use those jiffy pellets.....Never once got a sprout to come out grrrrrrr. I musta got a bad batch.

Yeah I was thinking that I might wanna strip them of that little sack they're in when it is just before time to transplant...

If those other two seeds don't come up within the next week, I will pull them up and just plant directly into my big pot... I am not sure why so many people think that is a bad idea? If you grow a small plant like a CFL garden would make you shouldn't have to worry about competition too much, right?

And during the time that it took me to contemplate that truth... I took some pictures of my closet for ya! You can see that I kind of just drew from whatever was around... I even make a side reflector for that 26watt 6500k out of 3 CDs and a bent-up, wire hanger.

I really want to put together what cannabizness put together once I move out and have some more room to myself. I would love to get yields like that and mine is not not even close to achieving a dream of yields like that! should I have watered all of the soil or just around my seedling?

I had come to look at the growth and it is't too much... the first leaves have gotten a bit bigger but noting spectacular like the first day... Turns out my watering was just the slightest bit too rough and the root was exposed! Maybe after I have covered it up, It will recover fast and get some friggin height on it already! It felt a bit warm ( mid 80's) but I can't tell exactly cuz I lost the thermometer I bought for the closet! I also switched the lights around so that I could have the 6500k light on the one that is up. That fan is doing some good work, though! I could probably add a couple more lights without a problem when the time comes.

If anyone has some hints or tips they would like to share, please let me know... I thought I could be aloof about the grow and resist the urge to keep fucking aroung with it but I am constantly trying to get it better. Any ideas?

Hey everyone!

So here is about the 4th day after my baby peeked out of the ground. I had a heat problem the first couple of days and didn't know it so I added a fan and just the feel of the closet has changed considerably I'm looking forward to adding a new light or two when I get some more leaves. I am so glad its packing on some growth and because of that I have given it a name. Say hello to Johnnie-O! Named after JohnnyOrganic who helped put away my fears of starting a feasible grow.... HPS really is just impossible for my situation right now. Dude, if its a girl, her first smoke'll be in your honor!

What? No posts? I went to Lowe's after class and what do I find? Only the first 65w CFL! And 2700k no less! grabbed some 42w bulbs too! Gotta wait until after work to try any of them out. Am I correct in the assumption that you can effectively veg with 2700k?

I put the 42w in last night at about midnight and and I am seeing some amazing growth this morning at about 9:30. Does the jump in lumens really have that much of an effect on seedlings this size.

This is Johnnie-O's day 6 and she's 2 1/2 inches across. And now I've started the 2-step watering that will continue all the way up to harvest.


I still check each day to ensure that the lights are not too hot or too far away. So far, the only problems that CFLs cause when they are too close is that they dry the soil out a bit more quickly. A very forgiving lighting scheme!


I sure hope Johnnie's a girl. I have learned so much and I would rather have a bonus smoke for all of my weeks of learning than just the experience itself. Either way, this grow has been very helpful so far. Any finer points that I am not getting?

Today after work I checked on the youngun and the first leaves are about 3 1/2 inches from tip to tip and the second set coming in are about the size where they will start laying flat to give that beautiful top-down view symmetry that I have always loved about this plant.

I watered again with about 500mL of 6.3pH water cuz the lights and the circulation are drying that soil out so badly! It's still better than HIDs for this grower, though.

Decided to cover my chances jsut a bit more by popping and planting 2 more seeds. They're in smallish clay pots right now and are getting about 125mL per day as necessary. I ran into the same problem with them as I did with Johnnie. eh force of the water being poured in is too strong and the soil is too airy so I end up with the uprooting of a seed and so I just flick and fiddle with the dirt to make sure the seed is where it needs to be. The root is growing but at a much slower rate than my first ever did.

hackel, a 1 pap is a just a single 1 zigzag rolled up, i barely ever roll them, its not enough for me, i used to smoke like WAYY to much weed when i sold it amonst drugs,i would say other drugs, but we all know weed aint a drug. I would smoke a whole blunt to the face and an hour later a 2 paper (L or J) and keep going and going, about 10 grams a day, when you said 1/4 oz a month i was like wow i miss those days( 4 years ago)
i smoke like 3 grams a day i would say? i medicate with it, i dont really get that high anymore, i get normal with the weed you know? everythings clearer for me so i just constantly smoke, but not enough to get really high and fuck up my shit im doing that day, i go to work, school, chill with my parents and family, and everything on weed, i couldnt see doing it without a little thc in my blood, but i dont wanna be high you know? all giggly and not able to listen because my mind wanders, i need it for the medical shit, i would die from all the muscle stress and bullshit i deal with on a daily basis. Dont get me wrong, when i get home from work or school if i have it, i love to get MANGLED off of like 6 bowls straight, but you cant do that shit throughout the whole day if you plan to live any sort of productive life, as the great Emcee Canabis once said,
"Any Body will get lathargic from weed smoke"
I know 99% of people who read this will say im addicted. i do too, to higher understanding, if i didnt smoke chron i dont know what i would be doing nowadays, probably some drone in society thinking about money and cars and all the other bullshit, I thank god for the herb he gave us.

oh and yea hackel you can veg with 2700s, i did it with like 8 2700 bulbs and 2 6500s it worked out amazing, my node sites were like 1/2 cms away from each other, i loved it.
