Auto Help

Hello,

I am about to start my first grow in several years and I have a few questions regarding auto strains. I have never grown an auto plant because I heard they were not very cloning friendly and I tend to grow in a SOG routine.

But I ordered some seeds a few weeks back and there were 4 auto freebies thrown in, I figured instead of letting them sit in a box that I would give autos a whirl.

I have tried to do some reading on them in my spare time but I do have a few questions.

I've noticed a mixed opinion regarding light schedules, 16/8 - 18/6- 20/4 and so on.. what is your opinion?

I read that trimming (topping etc) is not recommended for autos?

I read that transplanting more than once is not recommended for autos?

I will be starting the seedlings under a T5 grow light, How many weeks until I should move them under an HPS? wait until I see a sign of flowering? Usually my plants go from the seedling tent-veg tent-flowering tent but I'm assuming I will be skipping the veg tent all together?

I will be growing

Blimburn Grizzly Purple
Auto Seeds Auto Pounder
2 Dinafem White Widow

Any tips for a first time Auto grower are greatly appreciated

Thank you

I am by no means an expert, but here is my 1.5 cents.

I use a 24/0 light until they get there first set of true leaves, then I flip to 18/6 for the remainder of the grow.

No trimming or topping.

Once germinated I plant directly into the final pot (no transplanting). And I use 5gal cloth pots.

I grow with LED the entire grow so I don't ever switch the lighting.

How tall do your autos grow ?

So I'm brand new to this. I'm in the middle of my first Grow. But it is an auto. And my plant seems to be doing well so I will tell you what I've been doing. I had heard that transplanting was a no no. So I germinated in soil in the pot it would spend its life in. A 3 gallon pot. It did just fine. I soaked the soil a day before planting. During that time I let the seed soak in a cup of water. The next day the seed was at the bottom of the cup and I took it out and planted it. I put plastic wrap over the pot and got my cfls right up close on her. A couple days later she sprouted. Since then I've been adjusting my approach here and there as I gather more information but in the beginning I was going 24/0 and now I'm doing 20/4 and I think she's doing fine. She's been doing really well. Biggest things are with watering less is more and don't feed nutes too early. She grew really well by herself in the beginning with no help. When you do give some nutes towards the end of veg just be very modest with the dose. And only do it every other watering. Do not top or trim autos. No time to recover. Just LST her. I know this is my first one but I really feel like she's doing well with just LST. If you have more questions I can try to help if I can. I'm just speaking on what I'm dealing with at the moment. Good luck!

Thank you greatly everyone for your detailed replies. I am excited to start autos for the first time, What a cool concept to have a plant flowering on the same lighting schedule as your vegging plants so I can harvest autos while the regulars are starting flowering stage

Auto's are very tricky & only an expert will do really well , in saying that , consider them as a bonus to your overall plan, do not upset them , they wont recover , like a photo,..........if its cool nights were you are consider 6-2 , which will keep temps from dropping & still deliver 18 hrs of light, if thats what you want, im told by an a very experienced Auto grower that the veg stage must be faultless, if sucsess , is to be, lst works well, heres a pic of a Autopounder by Auto Seeds, Day 7 & day 28, with heaps of tie downs, & as yet no sign of change, ............but the breeders do say its an 80 day Auto, all the best with your grow
