Without a scope you can't see the trichs. But by outward appearance I would say you're good to chop.

I checked the Trichs. Mostly Cloudy. or All Cloudy.
Its been all cloudy for a while.
every now and then i can see an Amber but they are Few and far between. Maybe like 1%

Would I be right in saying that where autos are concerned the trichs do not always go amber?

You are correct!
Ive left autos for months and they didnt amber up. i left an AK for an Extra MONTH and it was still milky. no amber.
