Automatic Watering System

Hey, this is my first post to the forums so if I'm doing something wrong please take it easy on me.

I have two stealth speaker grows going. I'm fairly new to growing but think i have a pretty good grip on the whole process. The speaker design is perfect. No smell, nearly perfect levels inside (temp, humidity, co2) and barely any noise from the fans. My soon to be roommate would be cool with me having the speakers in the room. What do you guys think about that? Too risky??

On to my actual question:
Assuming that it's too risky to bring the plants to school, I must keep them at home. That means an automatic watering system. Anybody have any positive experiences with these? What are my best options? I won't be away for over two weeks at a time, but will have 12 total plants of varying sizes that will need to be watered. Any advice with this is really appreciated.

depends what state your school is in

as for auto watering system ............u know u need to keep filling them and they are not ment for use with any feed system

how offen are u getting back to the speakers to check on them ...........how big of planters are we talking 3 gallons 5 gallons

3 gallons for each. I'm in wisconsin. I won't ever leave the speakers more than two weeks before returning to check on them.

You can do a variety of options, anything from blumats to tweeting an Arduino setup to water from a phone when you are away to even having the damn things tweet you....for real http://www.botanicalls.com/

blumats are easy because: they are adjustable, don't use electricity and are small and out of the way. 1 to 2 carrots per 3 gallon pot is all you need. Really the only drawback of the blumats is the size of your reservoir [which in stealth /small grows aren't big] and if it runs out before you can refill. But a couple of gallons will suffice over even a couple weeks per plant.

Get a midget that works for smoke and has a fulltime job. :D compact, easy to house under the stairs, cheap to feed.

Now that's a cost effective implementation of an auto watering system.

Just don't go for the lazy pothead type...

2 weeks is too much time to leave a grow unattended. The plants will grow into your lights and get burnt. Worst case you start a fire. Longest I've left my babies was a week and they were a lot of work when I got home.

sorry to revive this old thread but i was wondering if blumats will run 300 ppm (.5 scale) through them without becoming clogged?

Sure I don't see why not...that is barely above silty tap water :) ...[300ppm]....They seem to "salt up" around 1000ppm level, but that is crazy high strength, most don't venture that far out :)

And even then, they can be cleaned, it will take a while or modest amount of flow to really clog these things up in a short amount of time....

I just found a couple of unused "carrot's" too, maybe I should seeing what maximum ppm could reach before clogging......I bet it is over 1500 ppm on the low end of the scale :peace:

The tap water here is over 500 so my nute solution should work, thanks for pointing out the obvious. lol.

I have to make the reservoir using a 5 gallon bucket...is there anything i should know? I only need a 5 gallon since it's only 2 plants (3.5 gallon buckets), and i am going to hang it about 5' above the blumats. What supplies should i be picking up other than a bucket and the kit? Silicone?
