Ballast question

I have a 600 watt hps that is broken. Id like to use the same Hood b.c its aircooled and buy a new ballast kit or at least a socket.. but i wanted to know if i could use the digital ballast that came with 600 hps, or is it strictly for the 600 watt? I need to switch down from 600 to 400 by the way. forgot to add that.

yeah I like digital alot better, they seem of better quality.. Ive bought several things from there before actually. Thats where ive been looking..

well i mean if you want cooler temperatures you should lean toward an air-cooled hood, with some fans. yes it does conserve more energy than the typical shitty little metal reflector and black box ballast. thats what i started out with, and what im currently using since my better one is broken.. its terrible its getting so hot in there, plus the radiant heat is burning my plants since theres no glass .

I'm no pro, but I believe you might have to get a 400 watt ballast, think if your ballast is pushing out 600 watts on a 400 watt bulb, pop goes the bulb.

you must match your bulb wattage to your ballast wattage(except for the 430w and 400), the type of bulb will depend on the type of ballast you need to get or prefer to get which is digital. Digital ballast can be used with hps/mh bulb.

Ok well that sucks... I just didnt want to buy a completely new system ya know.. before they weren't so exspesive. but now for some reason they are like 365 dollars for the aircooled hood, digital ballast.. i paid less than that for my 600 watt system.

Mr I Can Do That For Half
you can use your reflector with any light just have to swap the bulbs as a 400 watt is for a 400 watt setup and a 600 watter is for a 600 watt ballast. The hoods/reflectors all have the same socket just have to change the bulb and put the cord from the reflector to whatever ballast your using. If you need a new digital switchable ballast get it at Maryland Hydroponics they are only $119 and the 400 watters are $99 there. I use thier 600 watters and love them

well see.. i cant use the same socket b/c the wires came loose from it and its all messed up, and i cant fit my hands into it to plug them back in. plus the little metal clips inside are all pressed down and i cant fit the wires in it.. so I guess im just going to buy a new socket and all, i was planning on using the same hood anyways. but i def. need a new ballast.
