Baller on a Budget setup

This is a 70 HPS in a closet. These plants are about 45 days old. for the first 15 days or so I did not have the HPS, they sat by the window. So I know they are small for their age. The two on the left are drastically behind the other two, considering trashing. I have been using fox farm grow big at 1/2 strength every other day for the last week. What you see as my reflector is a sun protector for a car windshield. Growth is very slow. I am looking at some 47w CFL to put around at least the two good looking plants. Good idea or bad idea? Can/should I buy a higher wattage HPS bulb for my ballast? If you can see in the pic it is a simple outdoor fixture that came with the 70w bulb. I will probably only flower these two plants so will I be good with the 70W when I start to flower?

Alright I am dedicated to making the very best out of this, so please give me all the info you can. Please give me some suggestions to maximize my final out come. It would be much appreciated.

Thats about what they should look like at 2 weeks lol. The 70 watt HPS should be good enough for those 4 plants, no sense upgrading if you arent getting more plants unless you like spending more money on electricity ;)

I would first off recommend getting a big piece of white posterboard instead of that window shade. It looks like it is reflecting heat as well as light - not good. How far do you have that light from the tops? It might be too close. I grow with CFLs & tube fluros only. My whole light set only cost about $75. I've noticed that surround the plant with light works well. I will post a picture of my plant when it was 45 days old & another picture I just took at 88 days from seed. I think CFLs might be better for vegging & then add the HPS for flowering. My plant is taking a long time to flower under my set up.

I do not know why they are growing so slowly, I must have to get some CFL's. I am going to get one 45w cfl to put by each plant. Any other suggetsions of why I have such slow growth?

Adding CFLs and placing them around the lower/middle sections of the plants will help them bush out. Think it will help later when you flower, will help get abit more light on lower buds.

Your plants could be stunted, could have a nut. problem, could be a number of things. Tell us about everything - light,soil,temp.,etc. & maybe I or someone else could be more helpful.

I have an organic soil from a local nursery. Fox farm grow big nutes, 70w hps, 24/7 lights. I let my water sit for 2 or 3 days before I water. Seeds are really good bag seed. clueless about PH and PPM.

PS, I dont really talk like that, thought it would draw some attention to my thread. Ive had very few comments on my last few threads

My initial suggestions are to remove that shade, raise the lights, maybe water with no nutes, get a small fan blowing indirectly on them. I noticed your wall is white behind the shade - white is the best light reflector there is in my opinion. These few things should help & if you add some CFLs around the sides that would help also.

I'm here to help although I'm no expert. You may want to get a PH tester for your soil. I've personally never used one, but everyone says they are important.

I could get one but I wouldn't know how to make the proper adjustments after I tested. I think 2 of these plants are definitley stunted. So I am going to try adding some epsom salt. Is that pretty much regular salt? Can I get it at wallmart? Also do you use Co2?
