Bananas

Hey guys I read somewhere it takes around 5 weeks for a banana peel to decompose, im assuming thats if it was just a whole banana peel on the ground. I chopped up a couple banana peels as fine as I could then let them bake in the sun until the next day, and they were crispy black. I crushed them into a powder. Would this powder be quick release potassium? Would it be a good idea to mix this black powder with a couple gallons of soil and top dress my girl? Thanks

Alright will do, next year when I trasplant my girl into her flowering soil, it will consist of aged banana peel, bat guano, alvacado peel, coffee bean, and egg sheels mixed with soil.

MushroomHead as a good suggestion about the tea. I have hundreds of banana trees on my farm and use them and their leaves and stalks in my compost but have never tried it in tea though. Banana peels put in compost or dirt when they are still moist or yellow will decompose in a couple of weeks to a substance that is pretty well nothing. To me this is a vital part of my compost material. Let us know what you do and how it works.

it still wont be instant released like a chem fert but it sounds like it will be a great slow release potasium source. and it should break down muuuuuuch faster than a whole peel.
