Now, I have noticed a few people on this site, just surf from thread to thread - leaving sassy comments - throwing out a negative vibe. Shame on them.

If you know of a good fertilizer, soil amendment, a cheap place to get stuff, a tried & true way of doing things better or a fun fact...Please Share.

Many folks hitting this site, are first time growers... Help save them the disapointment of having their girls, fall over & die - from too little care or even worst - death by too much kindness..

A few things I've learned in over 30 years of growing.....that have not changed :

Start low & build as you go with Fertilizers...
.
Make small changes, before big ones...
.
Water weekly - but feed weakly / bi-weekly... You can always add more.
.
More is not always better.. especially since Fertilizers are now getting so concentrated. There was no 9-50-45 NPK stuff when I started. Talk about overkill, that will kill.. Man - I'd cut that stuff down to a 10 % strength. More like .9-5-4.5 NPK for Flowering to avoid nutrient overload shock.

HPS lights are good, but nothing beats the Sun.

Worm Castings, Rabbit Poop, Chicken Litter, Unsulphured Molasses & Bat Guanos - are the best organic fertilizers. If you read the labels on all those fancy hydro nutes - that's pretty much what their made of.

Skunks were great back then, and still are a main stay. They grow well, tolerate more severe conditions & smoke nicely... Pleasant - Not overpowering High..

Don't discuss your grow with girlfriends/boyfriends or friends - things change & so do people. Ben Franklin said it best " If three people know a secret. It can only be kept if two of them are dead." Wise ole dude.

Fun Fact: Bat Guano is the only fertilizer - the USA every passed a bill, protecting. It's value was so great in 1856 - that the person who found a large deposit of it - could lay claim to a cave, area of land, even a whole island - regardless of ownership.

to add to your point of "sassy comments", whats funny about that is when a person requests information or help, even tho there are forums that have earlier discussed these issues and that bothers a reader, you still do not have to reply.. those ill words redirects the entire point of the post, and undermines this sites objective.. Open discussion....

Oh yeah! I just bought my first bottle of seaweed extract. Hoping to do a little foliar feeding tonight.

Never used horse turds. Are they big??

Horse manure is readily available from horse stables and race trackes. se horse manure that has straw or peat for bedding wood could be a souce of plant disease. Compost horse manure for two months or longer before adding to the garden. The composting process kills weed seeds and it will make better use of the nutrients. Straw bedding often uses up much of the available nitrogen. Nutrient content of horse manure is .6%-.6%-.4%
and full of a range of trace elements.

Thanks Drum,we've always chucked it in the compost to mellow and work its magic,I'm wary of straw and other grasses and their seeds.

If it's a good compost pile, nice and hot in the inside, it's said to easily kill the weed seeds. Straw ain't so bad, just see if you can find out what kind of straw it is. We used shavings almost exclusively for our horses except during foaling, then it's straw (the shavings are bad juju for newborn foals). Nice thing about going head and using manure from stalls bedded with shavings is that, because it's being used for a live animal, it can ONLY be wood. Not pressure-treated, can't be treated with anything. So the shavings usually come from original source lumber mills, and at that point, if you can compost wood, why not wood shavings? Of course you can.

I just picked up a few tons of horse poop the other day
First of all, how old is the poop? If it's a few months already you are a good way there already; if not here's the recipe...

Layer of leaves, layer of poop, layer of grass clippings, layer of leaves, layer of poop, ad infinitum or until you run out of poop. Needn't be exact, and you can substitute cocoa hulls or softwood bark for leaves and vegetable leavings for grass clippings. Hit up the neighbors for their garden trash (leaves and grass); we all do.


So don't hesitate! Start that compost heap today! those plants are going to be much more successfull than you know if you utilize The poop...........Manure Matters: How Manures Measure Up

Thanks tuss & ohso.The poo is fresh,will have to make my own steaming pile,today was cold,about 82f or 28c ish & getting warmer so I hope I can mellow it in about 4 weeks,I also want to try subcools organic mix.Can I get bat poo in Australia?
