What is the best soil to use for autoflowers?

I've read that they are sensitive to soil.

I intend using different strains.

Used miracle grow and perlite before and it really burned one of them.

organic soil mix. a good organic soil is packed with nutes, but they wont burn the plant, teh plant will only absorb what it needs. autoflowering plants LOVE a good organic soil mixture, and most soils can take a plant all teh way to harvest with you only suplimenting the flowering fertalizers.

subcools supersoil has 14 years of professional growing experiance.... it has been used with great sucess by MANY people on the site.

any soil will work. if a plant gets burned or dies in a soil, it's because of user error. you didn't give it what it needed or you gave it to much of what it needed. don't listen to all the people who tell you that MG will kill your plants. If your plants die in MG it's because you don't know what your doing. learn what's in your soil, both living and non-living. learn what your soil actually does and how to help it.

LOL bam. did i say MG kills plants? no.

what i said was subcools organic super soil has 14 years of MARIJUANA research put into it. MG is made for growing ROSES. ROSES need powerful fertalizers a few times, unlike marijuana which needs mediocre fertalizers constantly. soil made for marijuana is just better.

you CAN go out and buy MG soil for like $12 a bag, but you get what you pay for. organic soil is engineered for 2 things. #1 plant growth, #2 plant TASTE. MG tastes like shit.

I never said that you accused MG of killing anything. There are a lot of people who bash MG that haven't even tried it but just believe everything anyone says because a friend of a friend used it blah blah blah. BTW, MG isn't made for ROSES it's made for GENERAL PLANTING. Now you can get MG specifically for roses, they make more than one type of MG soil.

Have you even tried using MG soil or do you just believe the hype? MG doesn't make your plants taste like shit, you do. Your drying, curing and plants themselfs make them taste like they do. You can use ANY soil and get amazing tasting, potent, large yielding bud if your genetics allow it and you give the plant what it wants.

Im not saying that subcool's organic super soil isn't good. I have personally never tried making any because I don't have room to keep 50gals of soil around and don't feel like doing the math to make small batches for my 6 3gal pots.

Im just letting Drgreenlove know that you don't need to go through the effort of making super soil, or paying through the nose for over priced name brand that people love to waste their money on.

  • Manufacturer
    • The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, founded in 1868, is based in Marysville, Ohio, about 30 miles northwest of Columbus. It reported $2.9 billion in net sales in 2007.
    Ingredients

    • The four basic ingredients in Miracle-Gro plant fertilizer are sulfur; potassium chloride; urea; and ammonium phosphate, monobasic.
    Types

    • There are different types of Miracle-Gro for specific plants that require different percentages of the active ingredients. These include roses and African violets.
    Forms

    • The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company makes more than 70 different forms of Miracle-Gro. These include Miracle-Gro-enriched potting soil, liquid plant foods and fertilizer pellets.
    Availability

    • Miracle-Gro plant fertilizer is available at most lawn-and-garden stores. It is also available at many home-improvement, drug and hardware stores, as well as nurseries, greenhouses and garden centers.
simple fact. MG was founded for rose growers, and they still only cater to rose growers. if you know what your doing with bacteria you can turn it into a good viable fertalizer, but thats if you know what your doing..... noobs get tooled by MG.

and yes i have grown with miracel grow. and there is nothing wrong with my curing/drying tek, its actualy better than 99% of the buds out there who dry it untill crunchy then start curing, it takes over 3 weeks and actualy pulls most of the Chlorophyll out of the plant. my buds are closer to golden then green unlike most of the crap i see around...... the bud still was harsh and burned on teh way down. why? because it uses salts to fertalize the plant instead of proteins. organics and major brand names dont use salts, thats the reason they "feel" better.

Im just letting Drgreenlove know that you don't need to go through the effort of making super soil, or paying through the nose for over priced name brand that people love to waste their money on.
you dont have to buy brand names or make huge batches of super soil. all you have to do is look around, or goto the organics forum and ask how to make amazing soil for >$100 for ALOT of soil.

....don't feel like doing the math to make small batches for my 6 3gal pots.
I recently mixed up a small batch of SS.

Here is the 'full size' 2011 recipe from subcool:

8 large bags of high quality organic potting soil with coco and Mycorrhizae
25-50 lbs. of organic worm castings
5 lbs. of Blood meal 12-0-0
5 lbs. Bat guano 0-5-0
5 lbs. Fish Bone Meal 3-16-0
¾ cup Epsom salt
1 cup Sweet lime (Dolomite)
½ cup Azomite ( Trace element)
2 Tbs. powdered Humic acid
*** If using an RO system add in 1/2 cup powdered Cal/mag

If you compare with his old version you will see that the proportions have changed which suggests that they are not critical and close is good enough.

I made 1.5 bags at 1.5 cu ft / 40qts each. This is about 1/5th of the full size. Quantities have been rounded to the nearest convenient size.

!bag FF OF
1/2 bag Black Gold Seedling Mix (cant filnd OF LW locally)
5lbs worm castings
1lb blood meal
1lb bone meal
1lb guano
5 tbs Epsom Salts
6.5 tbs Sweet Lime
2.5 tbs Azomite
1 .25 tsp humic acid
I also added som Mykos mycorrhizae.

One can buy small quantities of humic acid powder and azomite ebay for around $10 ea.
The rest of the stuff I found at local stores.

For easier mixing, I mix the small quantities together with the lime first. Mix that with 1gal of soil and then mix in everything else except the soil. Finally mix with the soil. It takes a lot less work to get an even mix this way.

I apologize for hijacking this thread. Let's get back on track.

I am running an auto grow with 3 different strains. Check the thread in my sig.

I too heard that they like light soil so I used FF OF with 50% perlite.

The are doing good and the soil is nice and light but with that much perlite in it the nutrient content is diluted and even though I was running a light nute schedule, they started showing N deficiency after just a few weeks. Also, this mix doesn't hold as much water as straight soil.

Old thread but man you people are dumb. Organic soil won't burn your plants? All soil is organic! It's labeled organic if it was made without any hazardous by products, chemicals or pollution. If the ferts too strong or hot then it'll burnem, organic or not. Theres nothing wrong with miracle grow either, shit works miracles. I just mix it at half strength for a while till they get used to it and flush it out with potasium when they start budding.

Fox Farms Ocean Forest is my favorite potting soil. If you can't find it, then I am sorry, but it is the best in my opinion.

and organic nutes can burn plants...it is silly to think they can't...anyway
no matter what soil you use it will appear "too hot" if you over water it.

Prenuted soil and any good organic soil have nutes that are released when you add water...so if you add too much water too often then the soil is adding too much nutes too often as well...

So use what you wish and don't overwater, but I would recommend FFOF...it makes things easy...as long as you do not over water the plants....

ok i was looking for a similar answer and have found a few things!

I use Super soil . my recipe was exactly the same but amounts were differ. i will be trying subs ss this year.

this is my first outdoor autoflower grow. i will start late and see what happens. just waiting for seeds to get here.

AUTOFLOWERS 60-90 days or so from seed to finish

For growing autoflowers you will want to cut back on the nitrogen . the plant vegs for like a week or 2.

so cut the blood meal into a third of what he said
i will aslo be adding Epsom salt and dololime to the top of the soil after plant are planted

you mix the super soil. place 50% or more ( autoflowers are much faster add more ss then 30%) Super soil into your smart pot or w.e
the other 50% i use

Root organics mixed with fox farm ocean forest and happy frog. i also add in hydroton clay balls to hold moisture.

once u fill the smart pot with super soil and normal mixed soil . u can toss extra hydroton balls on top with a sprinkle of epsom and dololime and i mean sprinkles dont go crazy. i plant my seed into these and never transplant
