Best Soil for Germinated Seeds?

Hi all, I am completely new to cultivating. I plan on germinating my seeds with the paper towel method and then put them into a pre-mixed organic soil. My friend is trying to tell me that soil doesn't matter and that it's called "weed" for a reason lol. I've looked at Fox Farms Ocean Forest and I've looked at Epsoma Organic Seed Starter. Both look great, but I've read that putting seedlings straight into Fox Farms burns them with nutes. Also, how long should I wait before transplanting them into individual 5 gallon buckets? And what soil should I use once I do eventually transplant them into their buckets? Sorry for the barrage of questions that have probably been answered thousands of times, but I can't straight forward answers anywhere!!

i run ffof and plant from seed right into it, never had an experience of them getting burnt from it.. i know, i've read it here and there as well, just saying ime, i have never had an issue planting straight into ffof.. i usually cut it by about 25% with perlite..

I understand what "cutting" is, but how do you go about doing it?

i just grab a big old bowl or w/e i have laying around, i put 3 bowls of the ffof in the pot i'm going to grow it in, then i throw in one bowl of perlite.. i stop for a minute and mix it up pretty good instead of waiting until later as i find it makes too much of a mess and doesn't mix as well.. so yea, 3 parts of ffof, w/e you use to measure this out, and one part perlite, mixed well after each dose of each..

Sounds great! What about using Fox Farm Big Bloom plant food? Do you know what this does and when you would need it?

if you want to go fox farm, i'd suggest buying the trio pack of their nutrients.. the big bloom, tiger bloom and grow big i think is the third.. a lot of places sell them in the three pack, i know you can get them on say amazon for say around $50 or so'ish.. if you go with the trio pack, it comes with a feeding schedule with it.. i'd suggest starting at about 1/4 or so of what they suggest to use as their in the business of selling more nutrients, and as a result, their feeding schedule usually tends to run a lil hot, meaning they'd have you feeding too much nutrients for what is needed for cannabis..
if you use the ffof, you can probably wait until about 3 weeks or so from seed to start feeding the plants as the soil should have enough nutrients in it to carry the plant that long.. just pay attention to the plant, and if it starts to seem hungry, meaning the growth will start to slow, or you start to notice a slight yellowing of the leaves, you can start to feed her a bit earlier than the 3 weeks i suggest.. it all depends on the plant, some plants are hungrier and will eat more nutrients, usually indicas can handle a bit higher dose of nutes, and sativas tend to be a bit more pickier, and like a slightly lighter feed..

Happy Frog works great for starting seedlings in also... though personally I would start in rockwool cubes than move to soil but there are many right ways to germinate seeds.

plant it into the grow block . and have it sitting in a 1/2 or so of water . works good . its very wet .
https://www.amazon.com/GRODAN-ROCKWOOL-STONEWOOL-HYDROPONIC-THCity/dp/B015YSRK82/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474969849&sr=8-1&keywords=grow+block try 1 you wont go back to your paper towel . ph the water @ 5.5 keep the water under 78f
Disagree with whatever 1/2 of water is... you want to soak you cubs for 30 min, squeeze out excess water, drop your seed than walk away. No need for a dome, no need for it sitting in water just make sure to rewet it when it starts to dry.

i put them in the 1/2 inch of water they get soaked and wet and i walk away for a week . leave a small light above so they have there sun . there are lots of way people use grow blocks . drip flood and drain . sitting in tubs water . dry and water like you . this sin the nice thing about them very universal .
