I designed my two lights to be 3 cobs per bar driven by 2 hlg-240h-c2100b based on Straight Road Electronics having 2 listed in stock on their website. I ordered the drivers and cobs the same night.
Fast forward a few days a get a call from Straightroad saying their website was incorrect and they had none. Julia pushed the 1750 on me but I told her I had to think about it. Cutter being the awesome company they are had shipped my cobs before I had even gotten the call from Julia. So now I had a 3 cobs for a 4 cob driver.
Said Fuck it straightroad already had my cc info may as well go with the 1750 as no where else had them. I asked Julia if I could receive a discount since they messed up and I was still willing to do business and I was ordering 2 of the apv-12. They gave me a whopping $0.60 off per driver, for a total of $1.20 discount.
So my drivers finally arrived and they only sent 1 of the apv-12! They did rush me a second one but still charged me for it. The next weekend I built my light and from the get go one light was about 100 times less bright than the other.
Back to emailing Julia. She tells me Mean well drivers never have issues and spent an entire week going back and forth through email asking me to do tests. I obviously have a full time job so I was never able to be home to do tests when they were open.
I finally got fed up with their run around and reached out to RUI for help. @Rahz suggested I swap the working driver. Ta da the light worked, obvious driver issue.
I tell Julia this and she still wants me to run more tests. I tell her I am someone they can pay to ship the driver back and do the tests themselves.
Work has been crazy so it took me a couple days to get to a FedEx store. These cheap mother fuckers wouldn't even approve FedEx to pack it, I had to go back home and box it myself.
This was a Friday night and FedEx tells me they will receive the package by Tuesday. Well like a week later, still no word from straightroad. I have to email them. I get this be email saying their woman that is head of that department has been out for days because of a funeral. How fucking convenient.
At this point I demand a refund, totally fed up. Julia tells me they have sent the driver back to Mean Well and will not be able to issue a refund/replacement until they get it back from Mean Well.
Well it's been 2 weeks and still no word from Straightroad. This makes what like a month and a half? Hands down the worst company I have dealt with in recent years. About to tell them just to keep the fucking $70 since it obviously more important to them. Mind you I dealt with a whole bunch of different companies building these lights, no other issues what so ever.
So I warn you all to avoid Straightroad, they dropped the ball every chance they had. Really amazes me a company with this bad of business sense can keep the doors open in today's market. So please be careful. I ordered a replacement from Mouser a few weeks ago, fast shipping worked great, highly recommended.
FYI I asked Julia multiple times for a discount code to share with the forum. When I talked with her the very first time she asked if I was using them to grow. So they know we are their market. She said she would get one multiple times but never came through. They clearly do not give a duck about us and only about the dollars.
All I can say is Fuck straightroad! I bet my this run will be done before I see anything from Straightroad.
