To all the fellow growers, before I get started on this long thread about my first and last experience shopping with BGhydro.com , I'd like to point out the onle edits made is to protect actualy names. I just felt that head warning about the "behind the scenes scams" how this company treats thier consumers. Maybe because they felt the need since I was a first time buyer threw them, or maybe they do it to us all without knowledgement.

Dear Consumer:

We currently have your order placed on 4/30/09 packed and ready to go. Unfortunately, there is an issue involving your shipping charges. We tried calling your number and got no answer.

You were quoted a price of $46.43 to send the order via FedexGround. However, the actual cost of that shipping method will be $139.33. If you still wish to use this shipping method, I would need your approval to charge the additional $92.90 to your account and your desired method of payment.

To pay any difference, you have the option of paying with your PayPal account, credit card, Western Union, or money order (which may take longer to processes). Once I have your reply, we will contact you with payment instructions.

Please contact us as soon as possible to resolve this issue. If you do not plan on calling us and plan to resolve this issue with a reply to this email please include your desired shipping method and your desired method of payment, if payment is necessary. Please note that your order will not be shipped until you respond with your desired course of action. You may call Mon-Fri from 10am-6pm Pacific Standard Time at any of the telephone numbers below. You may also email me at [email protected] or visit www.bghydro.com and click on "Live Chat".

(My first email reply to BGhydro)

Dear Sales Rep #1,

I'm concerned about the shipping on my order being quoted via e-mail. I don't recall any "oversized" or "overweight" items being purchased. Can you please explained a little more in detail why shipping is now tripled?! Original shipping was quoted and charged as $46.43 and now its $139.33?

Don't get me wrong, I order from BG because they express "quality" on thier stock, but shipping will quickly make "quality" no longer a factor in ordering preferences.

Is there not a "first time buyers" or "promotional code" you could process to make up the difference or anything?

As it stands I'll have to remove some items, wait till May 13th to pay the difference, or cancel the order.

I read the checkout policy and thought I understood it fairly well. I waited till the payment cleared (like it said) to be sure the shipping was correct. Both BG website and my CC said it was clear and the order was processed so I assumed there was no problems. Hence why I'm a bit confused and frusturated about additional shipping charges.

I didn't recieve a response. I also recieve a voicemail stating the same thing that Berea Thompkins had said. At aproxmiately 7:05 PM EST, I recieve a call from a BG represenative (forget the name) assuring my order has been shipped. I start to go into detail about the extra shipping charges and was told not to worry about it, it has been tookin care of, and again assured me my order has been shipped. She said she would call later with confirmation number(s). I told her to please send an email instead. She said she would.

It is now 12:34 AM EST and I havn't recieved an email nor a phone call. So, I log onto BGhydro.com to check my status on the order and run across this disturbing note.

___

Honestly, after reading that I got Pissed. First of there was 1 missed call and 1 message from 323-510-2708, which I assume is your company. Note, my number is a cellphone, it's voicemail is ALWAYS on! Second, there is a claim of a $92.90 overage that I can't get a response of exactly why so much. I could see being off a few dollars on shipping, but your trying to say that shipping is now 3 times the originaly quote of the order that has already been processed?! If there was an incorrect statement of shipping don't you think I should have been notified before billing me? I don't appreciate being lied too. (no machine to leave a message) And I don't appreciate being manipulated. (Order includeing shipping was a complete transaction on 05/04/2009 01:26:16 for the amount of $689.93. Now your trying to charge me more for order that you have already recieved full payment on!) Being a businessman of my own for 11 years now, I ask "what the hell is wrong with this picture?!"

According to your website, no item in my order had any special terms of weight or size being capable of altering shipping cost upon being processed. Including the fact that it was processed on the 1st of May, and payment was withdrawn on the 4th.

Do you understand my frustration? I place a $650.00 order as a first time consumer and I'm getting played?

Out of the dozen or so questions I've asked, (email and notes on order) I have yet to get a reply on any.

I place a larger order with a competetive merchant (HTG supply) within an hour of placing this order with you, and it will be here tommorow. It was nearly twice the cost and three times the weight. All coming from thier store located in PA, yet the shipping on it is only $73.00 and using a more expensive carrier?

When I can't get a exact reason other than just "shipping" for the "overage", and told one thing over the phone, person to person, and another thing via email/website. You make it real hard on me, the consumer, to do business with you.

All in all, if this order can't be sent in full for the amount I've already been billed, then cancel it, refund my credit, and I'll happily take my business elsewhere!

An unsatisfied consumer

According to this email, it speaks in present or past tense at the time of sending. Also, there was no mentioning of any delay. My card doesn't reflect this transaction. So I called and there is no record of this transaction pending. If this refund was really made I would like confirmation in a timely manner.

It will do me no good to tell you guys how shitty this experience has been thus far, but I assure you if it doesn't get better fast, I'll speak to whom ever it does matter. You can take these as threats if it makes your day, but all in all you guys need to put yourself in the consumers shoes for once. Your service sucks! Your sites so called shipping calculator is fubar, you only answer question that jepordize orders, and you jack up shipping cost on your behalf by over 33%. Honestly, I don't see how you guys are in business. Atleast online anyways.

If these problems aren't resolved asap, you can count on me writing many reviews on many different sites, bringing it to management's attention (if he/she doesn't already know), and possibly contacting BBB. This is unacceptable.

I will not be doing business with them ever again. I place an order on April the first and according to Fed-Ex it will arrive on the 14th of May. According to BGhydro my order was shipped on May 8th. This could be Fed-Ex's responsibilty.

But all in all if BGhydro didn't try to stiff me on shipping cost on thier behalf and also didnt charge me on the 4th for my order and shipping charges, then decide that shipping was inccorect. Conatact me asap before the payment was captured and collected, concerns about any overages, answers any/all of my questions that didn't jepordize cancelation of this order, and acted more profesional in "business terms" (aka common sence). Maybe I would use them again. But as it stands I wouldn't recommend ordering a DAMN THING from them via: online.

Sorry for such a long but informational post, I felt it was nessecary. Will be posting on any and all forums I can find looking for BGhydro reviews!

Thanks for you time,

I start to go into detail about the extra shipping charges and was told not to worry about it, it has been tookin care of, and again assured me my order has been shipped. She said she would call later with confirmation number(s). I told her to please send an email instead. She said she would.

It is now 12:34 AM EST and I havn't recieved an email nor a phone call. So, I log onto BGhydro.com to check my status on the order and run across this disturbing note.

___

5/5/09: Tried calling no answer and no machine to leave a message. Customer has an overage of $92.90 and has been sent an email. Need to collect charges on the SI and give back to shipping. BT

Sales Rep #2 and I finaly come to a solution and remove item "Homebox Seconds XL - 4.6 x 4.6 x 6.6", so my order could be sent without any further charges on my credit card.

The problems I am having is your website says all my items have been shipped.
With homebox Seconds XL removed from my order the total weight that I have been billed for is 156 lb's. According to Fed Ex (even called to verify), my total weight of 4 boxes is 109 lb's. Thas 47 lb's less then what I have been charged for.

Again the total weight is 109 lb's But I have been charged for 156 lb's. Now before Fed-Ex arrives and I make an ass out of them and me both by verify the contents of all 4 boxes, I ask was all my items sent or are you guys trying to stiff me with bogus shipping charges?

I want to point out again I am the founder and owner of (company) for 11 years now and working on a bachelors degree for business management threw (University). I know my rights and most business laws. This issue needs to be sorted Immediately because I will take proper measures on my end to sort if needed.

On May 7th, Sales Rep #2 sent me another email after sorting the shipping/overage.

(4 hours within sending my last email, I check my CC and I was refunded the promised amount. So I have sent 1 last email to confirm and apoligize on my behalf, altho I feel they tried to pull a sneaky on me. Reason being anytime I load my CC or have a credit done before it was from instant to 10 mins tops!)

____________

Again, I feel manipulated and decieved and demand an explanation. On wednesday, May 6th, I recieved an email stating the reason for "overage" was due to outragous shipping weight.

Thanks for you time,
Blatrix
Thanks for this, I had heard they have been having issues with shipping but after reading this post I will now be doing my shopping with Hydroponicsoutlet.com , I was originally going to use BGH as they are one of the few companies that offer shipping to Canada but after reading this I will NEVER shop there.

Thanks

Long story short, thier customer service is rated @ 2 on a 1/10, thier online shipping calculator is Fubar. Best to use website only as a guidance of product and purchase via phone.

My experience was a nightmare. None of my question ever got answered except 1 when I threatened to cancel a $650.00 order. (boy I got a quick response that time)

I place an order on April 30th, it was captured and proccesed on May 1st. Ready to be shipped on May 4th. Took 3 days of phone/email tag to a overage on shipping that is BOGUS to begin with. Said shippment was shipped on the 7th of May, however Fed-Ex didnt pick up till the 8th of May. It is now May 10th 8:25 pm and my shipment is still Sacremento, Ca. During this time (April 30th - May 10th) I have placed and recieved 2 orders from HTGsupply.com with no problems at all! One of these orders was twice the weight and 3 boxes compared to BGhydro order. Shipping on it was approxmiately 30% cheaper.

It seems everything that you thouruly look into on this company is bogus in one way or another. Very unsatisfied with shopping experience with BGhydro.com and told them over the phone to close my account, that they wouldn't get another red cent from me.

I just wish that HTGsupply.com carried HPS digital light systems that I am seeking.
Know any other suppliers? As I am open to suggestions. Looking for Lumentek or equivelant 1000w or serveral 400HPS systems.

blatrix check out quantum series digital ballast. They run around 300 bucks and YOU control the power output therefore saving you a bit on the elect. bill. You can run the ballast at 50 percent, 75, and 100. I use two 1000 watt ballast and for half the grow run it on 50 to 75 percent power. Very nice system and affordable compared to lumatek or global greenhouse. I know its off subject but if your looking for a great digital ballast check these out. I just got them 6 months ago and Im in love hahah.

Thanks Dave for the time to post positive feedback on an alternat digital ballast. I'll definetly look into them. At the moment I have two 600W digital electronics coming from HTG. The feedback on them are about 50/50 from what I've reviewed. When I upgrade, expand, or have any problems out these I'll give them quantums a try.

Do you recomend a supplier or should I just google "Quantum Digital Ballast" and look for them?

Thanks,

Are you fricking kidding me?

It's about a buck per pound through Fed Ex once you go over a certain mark. You're, or you were, sitting at almost 200lbs!

You should of kissed the virtual feet of BGhydro for a CHEAP shipping price of 140.

24 5 gallon buckets!? You ordered 24 5 gallon buckets online!? What are you, ignorant? I would of charged you 150 for those alone.

Here is the deal. I don't know how you or they screwed this up so bad but all my experiences with BGH, other than the Fed Ex guy coming too damn early to delivery my items, has been AWESOME.

Say you order 4 bags of perlite and 2 bags vermiculite. They charge you for the entire order and the entire shipping price of everything. They may only be able to send out say the perlite first, and then a week later the vermiculite, but all the charges happen at once so there is no separate shipping costs for each item they send out.

But again. 24 5 gallon buckets? WTF? Ah, Menards, Home Depot, any fricking farm hardware outlet sells colored 5 gal buckets for half the price and no shipping costs. Think before you shop online next time.

I was going to buy for them BGH but during a search mixed them up with PGH and www.pghydro.com came up and i figured what the hell why not. I just placed my 2nd order with them and so far everything was on point. Does suck that they don't have a huge selection though.
