Bigger seeds = Less chance of it germinating? and WTF is up w Nirvana Seeds? (pics)

Ok... I am pretty disappointed right now... last month...(like 6 weeks ago) I made my first attitude purchase...

I ordered 4 pick and mix Super Lemon Haze, Blue Cheese, A-Train, SAGE, and I also ordered a 10 pack of Nirvana's Indoor Mix..... The Indoor mix says it has 5 different strains.. So I divided the seeds, and paired up the seeds that I thought looked the most similar.... 2 were obvious because of the size, and color tone.. (very small, and dark pair, and very large, with light tone, with no tiger strip like of lines on them)... and the rest were hard to pair up since they were all pretty similar in size BUT 1 of the remaining 6.... It was also large, but didnt look like the other 2 large ones i had paired up... this one was darker, and did have stripes on it..... anywho, I finally paired it up with the closest match and I germinated 1 of each, along with the Blue Cheese, which was also kind of large compared to the rest, and 2 bag seeds.... 8 in total... (3 large, 4 reg med, and 1 tiny one)....

The small one surprised me, as it had the longest lil root growing out after 24 hours of germination(about half an inch), and the reg sized ones just cracked, and showed the little root just coming out.. But none of the large seeds even cracked....

So I ended up putting the ones that did pop in Jiffy Pellets, and left the other big ones in longer.. Theory was that since they are larger, they just might need more time for the water to soak into the shell, so I left them in and checked back every 8 hours or so, and nothing...after 3 days, I lost hope, and just cracked the seeds by hand, and noticed that it just rotted mush.

I was so disappointed that my blue cheese from Barney's didnt germinate, since that was the one i was craving the most..along with 2 of the Nirvana ones..I had kept the big one i had trouble pairing at the end, since i thought the bigger the better.... boy was i wrong.... at least that is my experience.... What do you guys think.... had anything similar?

AND TODAY I go to check up on the new seeds I started germinating yesterday from the seeds I just received from my second attitude order from their promo.... I reordered the Blue Cheese, and this time it was reg size... and I also germinated a Qrazy Train, Heavy Duty Fruity(this was one of the 2 seeds, and it was small, and looked deformed) and a Vertigo....... It has been 24 hours, and all Popped but the Vertigo.... and guess what?.... It's a LARGE seed..... I'm gonna just hope for the best, and hope it pops soon, because I really was looking forward to this one for an outdoor grow, because I was hoping one of either the Qrazy Train or the Heavy Duty Fruity ended up male, I would try and cross it with the Vertigo, Since its a feminized Auto strain..... And I really want seeds from it........ Wish me luck! and Hope it pops!

and about the Nirvana Seeds.... I already explained that 2 of the 5 didnt pop.. and from the 3 that did, I accidently killed one when trying to adjust the light, and the light bulb fell on the seedling, and broke it... and the other 2, 1 was growing deformed... after the 2nd node and the set of 3 leaves was supposed to come up, it was only a 2 leaved.. the middle leaf and one of the ones from the side grew out as 1, and the other 3rd leaf was normal.... I let it grow out to the 3rd node hoping it would fix itself up, but then it started getting powdery mildew, and the leaves had that rusty look to them which didnt let it grow as healthy, and the new leaves that grew out would all eventually curl up and grow weird. the 3rd Nirvana plant also had some of the same issues, just not as bad, but i gave it to my nephew since it wasnt doing to well.... My 2 bagseeds were the ones that exploded with vigorous growth, but just found out yesterday that they were both males.... I was prepared for that, so about 2 weeks ago I started my SAGE then the A-train and Super Lemon Haze and an other Nirvana strain...... SAGE is 20 days old, and the others are on day 10.... they are still small, but the nirvana strain is already showing similar signs of leaf curling compared to the others...


I tried to post more pics, but this thing isnt working.... damn took 30 mins to upload those 3..... I had others of that funny looking Nirvana, and my current grow... and the top of the sage that i am trying to clone... guess that should be in an other thread anyways...

Yeah, I contacted Attitude, and I told them that "I got some damaged beans".... I also was warned by a youtuber that they wouldnt have anything to do with you if you mentioned anything about germination.... I told them that my Blue Cheese was oversized, and unhealthy looking, and that with my knowledge with seeds was that it was not a healthy seed for my standards, but they just emailed me and threw that same BS about germinating.... I didnt even mention to them about the Nirvana seeds because I still had 5 left, and 3 that had popped... it was a couple days later that i noticed that they were runts, and not worth growing...... I really dont care about the nirvana ones that much, as they were reg, and cheaper, but these other's were $10+, and at the time they were sold out in singles.... I asked for credit off my next purchase if i did get a refund, to show them that I was not trying to cheat them, and that I was gonna continue being a customer......

I have yet to email them about my promo order.... Not a big big deal, but I did not receive one of the freebies, which was supposed to be G-13 Labs Skunk #1 and so far, my vertigo has still not popped ...... F them.... If it doesnt pop, I'm gonna tell them that my Vertigo, and Skunk #1 freebie were not included in the package..... I made my order on the 4th, and i just got them yesterday.... well the day before, since it is after 12, but that's a long ass time to wait for a dead seed, and 1 missing one.... and i havnt gotten my free gift yet either.... dont really care if i do or dont, but if i dont get it in the next 2 days (should be the 21 day mark)... I'm gonna complain about that too... who knows... they might give me something better for doing me wrong, Like that grinder that I originally wanted ... and that's only 4 of the seeds I have gotten... who knows which other's might not germ.... I got Pineapple Express..Bubba Kush, Headband, Lemon Skunk, Cheese, and Cannatonic and all the THSeed's and Dinafem freebies plus the G-13 "new strain" was Sour AK..... Unlike alot of ppl, I really didnt mind if I had gotten the NL Auto, Since I really want some bud asap!...lol, Plus was Hoping to grow it along with the vertigo, and cross both like i said, with the Qrazy Train or the Heavy Duty Fruity If i happened to get a male.... and if i didnt, well MORE BOMB WEED FOR ME...lol.... Win/Win!..... F it.... Sour AK sounds to be a pleasant smoke by the description.... So I might do it next run, or who knows... I might end up germ'ing it if this Vertigo doesnt germ, and that, Heavy Duty Fruity, and the QT will be my Outdoor grow....... My indoor is gonna be SLH, A-Train, and S.A.G.E....... And to those Nirvana Fan/Lovers..... Dont get me wrong... I'm not trying to bash them in any way.... My first grow was actually Nirvana Seeds... Grew out ICE, and K-2...... K-2 was DANK, and super beautiful, and everyone Loved it... I was looking to try it out again, but noticed that nirvana has discontinued it... That pisses me off, cuz it was my first love...lol... Never forget your first..... I tried looking for one as similar qualities of it picture wise, and the S.A.G.E reminds me so much of it.... Just FAT!... and lime green Nug with a hint of bluish hue deep in the crevices...Guess it was just all those trichromes that made it look like that.... It had more than the Ice and the Ice ended up looking alot different than i thought... well than that pic... Had a ton of red hairs.... and tasted like fuel...... I didnt like the Ice that much, but I seriously dont understand why K-2 was never popular with anyone... It had very little reviews on the nirvana website (note, this was like 7 years ago).... the hot strains at that time were pretty much the same as now... White Widow, White Rhino, Bubblicious, AK 48, and NL....... But I just was attracted to the name K-2, and really thought it looked special, but the pic wasnt in good quality, so i guess thats why ppl didnt bother ordering it...OHHHHH..... AND BACK THEN IT WAS ONLY $15 A PACK OF 10...and Bought 3, and you would get a free pack.... I had gotten K2, Ice, AK-48, and Indoor Mix.... Only got to grow out the K2 and ICE... after my Harvest, I went on a trip Partying, and you know how it is with the ladies.... and I had the best stuff in town... didnt sell it, but I would party alot.. Only got like a lil over 3 Oz, but it lasted me a good month... I didnt think.. I was just living in the NOW, well before I knew it, and when I was out of weed, and wanted to grow again, my seeds were GONE!... I kept them in my wallet, and every time we would party, and i would get trashed and we would smoke and drink... ppl would ask how i got that good of stuff, and the good hearted person that i am, It was easy for me to pull out my wallet, and hand over a seed or 2... I was like "hey.... they're only $15 bucks, I'll order more soon"..... well that day never came soon enough... I am from South Texas, and weed is SUPER CHEAP here.... Not Indo, or Hydro, but we have alot of options of good enough weed that most likely came from Mexico(99% sure).... But it's not as bad as you might think, and can easily get a QP for $75... LB for $150 or even cheaper if you're lucky or get the hook up.... So to tell you the truth, I prefered smoking blunts of that stuff over Bong Hits, and Pipe hits of Dro.. PLUS... I was a long time member of the BEST MARIJUANA forum back then OVERGROW... and when the site got shut down, I was devastated!... All my Pics.... all of my 2000+ Posts... GONE!.... I had so many friends that I lost contact with... I felt so dumb for not asking for their email or something... I never thought the site would of gotten shut down because they got busted.... How things have changed..Surprised how Name, and Picture of the strain is a HUGE issue for seed success.... Dont understand how some companies issue a JUNK Pic.... Ive never had any problems with attitude of barneys farm (ordered from attitude 4 times, and from barneys farm 3). Idk how you germinated your seeds, but it looks like you placed them on top of a wet paper towel in a piece of tupperware, and covered it with a piece of plastic wrap and put them under a fluorescent light. Hate to tell you but its probably your technique.

Wow..... That's a little harsh, buddy........ Yes, Everyone is a noob at some point, Including yourself...... But no matter how experienced I am as a grower, I would NEVER insult someone's intelligence like you just did...... I say you should go to the childrens section of the forums if there was one...... I am not a noob, but I do always learn something new every day, and peak to growing knowledge is endless..... I dont blame Nirvana, but this batch I got from them had issues..... How was it that all others grew fine, and all others germinated fine but the Blue Cheese and big seeds also?... It doesnt take a genius to germinate damn seeds... and that little mini greenhouse tent shown in the pic is just for seedlings (and clones in the future)... It's pretty much 3 propagation domes in one.... My growing tent is in the closet a few feet away from it....... I am new to these forums, but I was a long time member of Overgrow before it was shut down...... Funny how ppl judge your growing skills by the # of posts, and how long you have been a member of the site..... I do have common sense when it comes to plants.... I was raised in a 6 acre ranch, and have grown practically every common vegetable out there....

I have germinated in cups of distilled water, paper plates with paper towels, in jiffy pellets, in rockwool, in soil but recently I have been using ziplock bags with gauze inside....this time I used a cover to a dvd spiral case.... Cleaned it, Placed a clean layer of gauze on the bottom sprayed it with 5.8 ph water... placed the seeds in a square pattern, then put 2 more squares of gauze and sprayed it down a little more, and covered the thing with saran wrap, and just left it on top of my pc which stays warm, and isnt near direct light...... BUT... back then when I grew that K-2, I did the same thing, but in a bowl, and put it in my window sill for it to get sunlight, and they still germinated perfectly.... This ISNT rocket science, and not as difficult as some people make it out to be.... I could probably think of 100 ways to germinate a seed successfully... and i'm sure more than 90% of the people on here with enough common sense can also...... I'm not blaming ANY breeder!... It's just a theory of the size of the seeds.... the Blue cheese I put to germinate 30 hours ago popped already.... This time it is the Vertigo that has not popped, and again, it's a big seed...... This has nothing to do with any genetics

Seed size has nothing to do with germination rates. The size of the seed solely based on genetics. I've had seeds that were super tiny up to huge fat seeds germinate fine.

Nirvana is nice. I got WW from them and they all germinated and all that I kept were female.

The bigger seeds sometimes have a thicker shell which makes it harder for them to germinate. The big seeds are usually very mature seeds with thick shells.

I have no idea then. That sucks about the non-germination man. Idk...why do you use so many different germination techniques? Is it that you haven't found one that works for you? Usually when it comes to germination, a 80% success rate is good/normal. The reason breeders sell seeds in 10+ pack is because they know that some seeds just aren't viable. Let's say 3 out of 11 just don't pop. Out of the eight seeds you have left you might cull 2 because they're runts. Maybe you accidentally kill one and stunt another, you have 4 good mothers to choose from. Granted this is a "worst case" scenario, usually you get more than 4 plants out of 11, but I'm being realistic.

Long story short, it's not unusual for seeds not to germinate. It's probably not the breeders fault (if you choose a reputable one), and it's probably not the seedbanks fault. Not that I don't feel for you man, don't get me wrong. When I was just starting up I was really broke and if that happened to me it would have screwed up everything. Hell yeah you should complain about not getting the free promotional item they were gonna send you damn it.

I didn't mean it as an insult its just that the error is obviously yours here and not the genetics, If you went to the noobie or indoor forum you might actually get some help that is not an insult, like you said everyone is a noob sometimes, this forum is about strains when you seem to be struggling with your environment, germination methods, tools, and techniques...not something really appropriate for the strain review forum when you didnt even get past seedling stage how are you gunna do a review ya know, no hard feelings.

ok.... Good news.... Vertigo has cracked! ...4 out of 4, I'm so excited with this situation... so many options.. ....All placed in Jiffy Pellets in the same little DVD Spiral lid, since it will keep the jiffy's nice and humid, and are about the same height also... I put it in the very top of that little green house thing shown in the pic at intro, above the lights.... It has good humidity, and away from direct light for now, till all 4 break the surface. And the reason I have used so many methods is because I know mostly all of them work, so I just go with what I got, or the first thing I see.... it's simple knowledge on how to crack a seed.... Humidity, and warmth away from Direct sunlight...and Patience. It might seem ghetto, but the last 3 times I have germinated, I just put water in that lid for the DVD spiral thingy, because its like a flat bottom bowl, but has a small dip/dimple in the middle which collects about 2-3ml of liquid, so it kind of acts like a drain and also as a backup just in case it gets too warm, and water evaporates quicker than expected... so that will be there for the gauze to soak up more water if needed.... I just cover it with saran wrap, and put it on top of my laptop which draws enough heat to warm it up to perfect temp.....

and Deprave.... I was gonna post in the Indoor growing section of the forums, but since i'm talking about seeds, this is the "Seed and Strain reviews".... I'm new to these forums, so I just saw it as what the title implies.. dont know if it means talk about seeds, and talks about strain reviews, or reviews on strains and seeds.... They could of easily named it that way so it wont cause confusion, but since this is seed talk in general, and not about ANY particular company or strain......

I did kind of throw a mini jab at the indoor mix I got from Nirvana.... I killed one by accident, 2 didnt germ, and 1 was a runt, and the other was just not on par with the other 2, so I gave it away to my nephew... I have no idea how it's doing right now, but my neph was gonna place it outside... I'll let you know if it was my environment, or if it was just a slow semi runt... Like I said, the other 2 grew beautifully,but they just ended up being male...... all my current ones are growing fine... I grow them in my room, and the A/C is on at all times, so the room is always fresh.... anyways. what I mean to say is that I still have 4 Nirvana seeds, and one Nirvana seed growing in the process, so who knows, Maybe i was unlucky with the draw, and these next 5 were the cream of the crop!

And I know i write alot, but if you read that super long post earlier, you all would know that I have NOTHING against Nirvana, NOR Barney's farm...... NOR Attitude.... At least not yet... this has only been my second order from them..... But i do expect that free gift :/....

What do you guys think?.... Should I complain, and tell them about that freebie Skunk #1 that they forgot to send me? :/.... I have a feeling like if they keep tabs on ppl and are like "This person is an ungrateful bastard, and didnt appreciate us giving him all those other freebies, and has to complain about such a small problem".... or maybe they do it on purpose, and double check on what they shipped, and are like "I wonder if this guy is gonna complain...... and if he doesnt, we'll reward him on his next order..... or send him to amsterdam!"...... there is no such thingas a runt mot worth growing,the biggest bush in my yard started off like that, It would not surprise me if its stem at the base is now close to 2 inches diameter.

What he said . Runts turn out to be some of the best unique plants in the garden,even if they do have a slow deformed start. Seed size is irrelevant to germination and is more genetics. Good luck and don't be so quick to blame a seed company. I've had no germination issues with any company's , only cracked seeds when they arrived.

I know they were long, but did you even read my posts?..... I'm not blaming any seed company or genetic.... I'm merely debating whether big seeds have a lesser of a chance germinating compared to smaller ones, and I wanted you guys input...

I think what my problem was, was since the place where i germinate gets pretty warm, I think since the smaller ones germinate so quickly, the bigger ones take longer, and cant handle the heat for that long, and will eventually pretty much boil after 40+ hours at like 90-100 degrees or so(Just a guess... I just germinate on top of my laptop, how i said earlier)..... I think next time I will germinate those HUGE seeds the same way, but at a slightly cooler temp since i know they will take longer to crack....... But seriously... That first blue cheese was Huge, and this next one that i received is much smaller in size compared to the last, so same genetics will not always be the same size seed.... Unless the one they first sent me was DOA, because this Vertigo was also huge, but it finally popped about 18 or so hours after the other 3...

Next time I will do a side by side with bag seeds when I get at least 5 huge ones, and 5 smaller ones of the same genetics, and test out the time lapse, and survival % and which seeds produce the better overall plant under the same conditions....

Easiest way I have found to germ any size seed is soak in a cup of water/egg carton, anything for the seeds to float. Next day, they will be softened from the full day in the water, take out and use paper towel method. next day your tap roots will be poking out and by 48 hours have half inch roots ready to plant.
I read where you put them on your laptop, to me i would think the laptop possibly could create too much heat. I have always set them in room temp place (70-74 degrees) on top of the cable box or simply just let them chill. Always done this and gotten atleast 85%-90% germ.
But as for the seed size, its not out of the question. The bigger seeds seem to take longer but not always. My guess is you just got some bad luck in seeds which happens. Good Luck with the Vertigo though, im interested in hearing about how it does.
And yeah, don't be nuisance to attitude, theyre good people trying to make the world of illicit farmers happy.

I think my Blue Cheese is DEAD again!!!...... I just let the seeds pop, then I placed then about a cm deep in the jiffy pellet, then I placed them in my propagation tent..... Normally after I germ it takes about 24-36 hours for them to break the dirt, then I peel the seed off, and put them under a cfl as soon as they break to avoid stretching..... anyways, I wanted to see the progress, since none have broke the surface yet, and im an inpatient bastard..... So i dug carefully with a toothpick, and QT was dug in like a tick, so i left it alone cuz i knew it was rooting good... checked the Vertigo, and it also seemed like it was latched on snug, but then I got to the Blue Cheese, and the lil fucker just rolled over so easily, and the little tiny root that was just barely sticking out of the seed, like if it just got done germinating..... I have a feeling that this one is dead yet again, but who knows, maybe it's just a slow grower..... I checked the HDF, and the thing was also rolling around with hardly any taproot either..... I didnt mess with them too much since I was afraid I might break the little root off, then i'd really be fucked....... So i just put them under a 23w cfl (6500k), and I will just hope for the best....... I'm starting to think that if it is dead, that maybe these Blue Cheese are ultra sensitive to heat, and cook so easily...... I have always germinated in places just as warm..... In fact, I used to germ them in a ziplock bag UNDER my laptop, which gets way gotter than on top..... If it is dead, I'm gonna buy it 1 more time, and germinate it either a slower method.... (I'd use heat, since it usually cracks them in less than 16 hours for the most part, but next time I will do it in a 1 inch rockwool cube in this cloner I made with an Air pump....... Fool proof.... enough oxygen... good temp, pretty much guaranteed to grow if it's a good seed.... If that doesnt work, then I'll have to be with those guys that say Barney's suck at breeding, and that their stuff will mold, cuz thats what my first one looked like.... like if it just didnt want to grow, and turned into mush...... Here in south texas it can get as hot as 105 or even higher and so humid... So you're telling me, If i were to plant a Blue Cheese outside, It would practically cook, and not grow...... I just took the temp of the spot on my laptop where I germinate, and it's what i thought..... 94 and 108 under it.....

anyways... None have broke the surface yet, but if they do end up being cooked beans, then I learned my lesson for trying to germ them so quickly, and next time I will germ them on the right side of the laptop where it doesnt run as warm.... It's only like 80ish there... the place where i would put them is where the Hard Drive is located, so it gets even hotter when playing video or playing games.... but i never did that while germinating..

if Blue Cheese, and HDF dont make it, I will grow out the other HDF, and a Bubba Kush...... I really didnt care so much about this HDF, since it was a deformed bean, and didnt even think it would germinate... and i'm gonna have to take advantage of the april tude promo, and get me an other Blue Cheese, and also a Big Buddah Blue Cheese, and reg Cheese for my next run..... See which one is better under same conditions.....

JIFFY PELLETS WERE MY PROBLEM..... NEVER AGAIN..... Just discovered that the peat moss in the pellets is acidic as fuck, and makes the medium 4.5ph when watering it with 6.0-6.4 water... It stunts their growth, and eventually just rot inside..... http://www.mandalaseeds.com/Guides/Germination-Guide (yes, i ran into this thanks to a RIU member..).... No more Jiffy pellets for me..... I flushed out all my pellets with about a cup of warm tap water each(7.8 ph straight from the sink) till it's ph ran to about 6.0 in the Jiffy Pellet... Then I gave it one more flush with PH'd water at about 6.0 just in case.... I know for a fact that the HDF had died, so i added the other..... the Qrazy Train rooted fine, but the Blue Cheese's little taproot was still very small, so i dont know if it's dead yet... same with the Vertigo.... Hopefully this will help, but no more Jiffy Pellets for me..... They were a new way of me growing, since i found them convenient, but I'm going back to straight up soil in a cup, even though it takes up more room, or 1 inch rockwool cubes......... Sometimes it's good to stick with what worked for you before instead of trying to find new ways of doing something you already had success with...
