Blacklight Experiment

Ive seen this question pop up several times about blacklights and growing. Ive read that blacklights do not grow weed due to the fact of the high UV it puts out. However, Ive been growing a plant under a blacklight and it seems health and fine so far ill put a pic below. However, ive researched and heard different things such as mixing in a black light will triple the THC in a plant (complete bs it sounds) also that it will work all the way up to the budding stage of the plant? If someone could come in and clarify what is true and what isnt would probably be great for others asking the question along with myself...however my plant has been looking perfectly fine as if I grew them under CFLs heres a pic:

1 week and 3 days into it:

I dont think they will make it through flowering.
They should look a little better than that for 2 weeks under normal lighting.
I hate to say your wasting your efforts but, Why not just grow normal and keep a blacklight on them as supplemental lighting?

Looks ok. Those CFL's need to be pretty much right on top of them... 1-2 inches away MAX...

-BUT-

To be honest , probably won't be worth much more than looking at... If your growing in your parents house, and they've already caught you once.. Their going to catch you again... Not to mention if YOU get caught, THEY lose everything...

My friend... Risk vs Reward... This one is NOT worth it.

Good luck in future endeavors!

I second that, don't grow in your parents' house - wait until you have a place of your own.:peace:

uv lighting does make the plant produce more thc, harmful uv rays are why cannabis makes thc (one of them at least), its like sunscreen for em.

ahhh so it does make it produce more thc? so would it harm the plant to mix the black light in with CFL lights? and perhaps I culd produce a pretty potent plant?

they no its there now..they thought it was pretty cool...they didnt no i was a gardener :P
lol In that case, grow on! I would be very, very careful with the blacklight - they get sooo hot, it makes them a HUGE fire hazard. Good luck!:peace:

as far as lighting im not sure how i wanna set the light cycle...will 12/12 still grow the plant fine or should I only do 12/12 when budding? and 18/6 for the vege state.

You can do 12/12 right off, but it will decrease the plant size and overall yield. I personally do 20/4 for vegging - I read a thread about an experiment done to determine best yeild vs root growth, and the 20/4 cycle won. But you can also do 24/0 or 18/6, it's up to you.
