Bone meal

What's up with steamed and precipitated bone meal? Not a lot of info on precipitated and most recipes recommend steamed but precipitated is what is used when using tlo recipe. On large holes outdoors is precipitated bone meal productive? Should you pally both and at what rates? Thanks for any help
