I was told by another local grower that the strain would eventually, after three or four generations, loose all potency and turn into Indiana ditch weed if I didn't cross it with something else.. I was just wondering if they were full of it or if they knew something I didn't know... How long will I be able to store the seeds if I plant just for seed this year? I just love AK-47 and dont want to loose the potency or the seed.
breeding seeds from the same parents, so siblings brother/sister is a big no-no. its just like if you were to impregnate your sister, youd end up with a retard child. same with plants, but it wont really effect the 1st generation so much. the guy who told you this is right, but chances are all the plants wouldnt even make it to flower, due to unstable genetics, and inbreeding
from Wikipedia:
Inbreeding is the reproduction from the mating of two genetically related parents, which can increase the chances of offspring being affected by recessive or deleterious traits. This generally leads to a decreased fitness of a population, which is called inbreeding depression. Deleterious alleles causing inbreeding depression can subsequently be removed through culling, which is also known as genetic purging.
The only way id recommend to inbreed is if you got a KILLER bagseed strain you come across, and you want to save the genetics so you can cross it next year properly.
