That stupid ass timer keep shutting itself off. You push those gray tabs around the edge down for the time you want it on and they push up a tab to turn on the electricity. But that fucking tab keeps popping up my gray tabs, worked fine last night, not it won't work to save my life! had to plug my light and fans directly into the wall, which isn't that bad, just gotta remember to turn em off tomorrow, but it's SOO annoying. Anyways, this model of timer = shit

Yeah, digi-timers work really well generally.

Just be careful with cheaper timers, digital or mechanical though. Some say they can handle 1000 W. I have found one or two bordering on melting. Like a perfectly toasted "golden" marshmallow around the plug holes.

No doubt.

My timers and ballasts were fairly old and most likely was more of a overdraw of power on the part of the ballast itself.

But I hear ya there. Digi-timers are the way to go IMO though.

I got one, surge protector is ran off the timer. thats not the issue, its just a funky ass timer flaw, the tabs shouldnt be able to be pushed up

I had an even cheaper one, amazing how simple the concept inside is, anyhow, mine started messing up just like yours, opened it up, cleaned and greased the mechanism, and reasembled and its still working....
That reminds me I designed a circuit that had nice long time delays and you could adjust the amount of time it goes on for roughly, which I find is quite convenient with plants etc which you want on a fixed schedule...
