Brown spots and crispy leaves.

Hey I've got a problem. So I'm using current culture XL 6 system and there nutes with a calmag and I'm in week 3 veg. I'll try and post some pics later. The problem is several leaves on each of the plants in the system and started getting brown spots and then the leaves are turning brittle and crispy. Looks like it's getting worse. My guardian says my PPM's are 280, water temp 67, PH 54. Was having a little bit of a pH problem so made a few adjustments over the last week. I'm going to flush with refill with RO water tonight. I'll see what happen over next couple days. If anyone has any advice or has run into the same problem I would appreciate any help. Thanks guys.

Bacteria blooms can cause a serious PH swing. Usually up. Symptoms include what you described. One day or for a week the ph will stay stable. No problems, very little if any adjustments. Then over night it'll go up to the 7.5-8 range...

Clean the buckets, hoses and all the nooks and crannies of the water pump.

The Ph problem was my fault, I screwded myself and added ph down to my system not the res. So then spent next few days trying to bring it back up, then having to back down. Was a mess. So do all this could be because of that? I just never had a pH issue before, but you think the issue sound like a pH problem though?

Yes. There's only three main problem areas with hydro. PH being number one since it effects #2, being clean and #3, nute uptake.

#4 is bugs and fungus slim.

I also use the UC 6 XL - are you using UC Roots to keep your rez sterile? If not, do... Also, on mine, the aqua pore diffusers were putting out very little air, so I added another air pump and another air stone in each module except the epicenter.

What type of ca/mg are you using?

Also, when adjusting the pH are you diluting it first before adding it to your system?

Last question - lights... What type and how far are they from your plants? Your PPM's sound right and so brown and crispy is making me think light burn maybe.

I am using you see roots, and botanicare
Cal-mag. I'll check the air diffusers tonight see if they're putting off a decent amount of air.

Normally I put the pH into the res so that it's diluted when he goes into the system. I don't know why, I wasn't thinking about it and added some to the system by mistake then needed to play around with it to get it back in range.

I run spyder X plus. It's at 60% right now and about 3 feet above the plants.

Those are some bad ass looking light. Super cool design the way it's modular - wow!

But - can you post some pics of the damaged leaves? It maybe still sounds like ca/mg deficiency but hard to tell without a pic. Are you mixing the Cal-mag at 5 ml/gal - so, 250ml ~ for your system. Maybe go a hair lighter on it with this system - maybe 200ml. It'll probably add 400 ppm or so to your overall but that's ok. I use caliMagic and ProteKt for Si and they add 420ppm and 50ppm before adding nutes - and that's expected.

You can also foliar feed light ca/mg if you want to give them a boost right away. The damaged leaves will stay like that, but it shouldn't progress.

Current system does work awesome. Yeah the lights are sick and the electric bill is nothing and there is basically no real heat. So here's where I'm at now, system has brand new ro water with just uc roots and cal-mag (225ml). Then I cut off the worst crunchy brown leaves so hopefully the plant won't be struggling trying to heal itself. I'll prob let it go till tomorrow night then add veg AB to the system.
I'll try get pics tonight.

This is an old post but ive had the same issue in dwc and cannot figure it out at all. Ive tried to fix possible deficiencies and ph issues and cant find the problem or solution. If you find out the cause please post
