I figured I'd start a thread for this since it actually worked. While smoking some strong herb last night and laying in bed, I had a dumb idea pop into my head.. So I thought. Some of you may still think this is stupid but I figured I'd share my results anyway since the idea worked and worked well. Now, I am not sure if there is any benefit of making hash with my method, but it is a method that will yield you some great hash with virtually zero work. No washing machine, no stirring, no agitation. As we know, agitation (too much) can cause plant matter to end up in your hash. If you don't have a washing machine, I'm sure sitting there stirring the bucket of ice water is not your favorite thing to do. Here's where my idea kicks into action.
I took some buds, I'm not sure how much as I didn't weight it and wasn't planning on this actually working, but since the idea kind of made sense, I went ahead and went with the flow. The buds were put into a bowl of cold water and submerged. I used a smaller bowl to hold the buds under water since buds float. I then put the water/bud mix into the freezer over night. This morning it was froze solid into a bud ice block.
I then let this thaw out over the course of several hours. Once it was completely thawed, I poured the mix through my bubble bags. Mind you, no mixing, no nothing, other than freezing the buds in water. I was amazed with the hash that I got from this method! I can not report on yields yet as I'm still working on this. The next batch I plan on freezing, thawing, freezing and thawing, multiple times.
My theory is this. The washing machines use agitation to remove the trichs. That is the only reason for using a machine or mixer to make bubble hash. I think that when the buds freeze into a solid block of ice, the trichs loosen. But I think the magic really happens during the thawing. I think when it thaws, the trichs are slowly pulled from the stalks.
Now my theory could be full of shit, I don't know. All I know is that this worked and it took me zero labor to make it. How does it stack up to the traditional methods? That's what I still need to find out. Is this method better than traditional methods? I'm not sure. All I know is that it was the simplest way I've made hash ever. And I like simple.
