That's what I was thinking. Photosynthesis in the leaves. So why does the bud need so much light?Energy produced by light being absorbed by the leaves through photosynthesis causes the buds to get larger. Light on the buds themselves don't perform this action.

Am I wrong thinking some defoliate to "get light to the buds"?
And there ya go. Thanks. You're not wrong thinking that. There are many growers who falsely believe that removing fan leaves to get the budsites more light is actually beneficial. By removing fan leaves, you're completely reducing the amount of energy the plant can produce, and therefore, stunt growth and bud formation.
