Budding.... simple question

Ok i dont need to bud yet, but im wondering, should i cut the light straight down to 12/12? or should i do it over time?

Doing that is supposed to trigger the flowering faster. I just go from 18/6 to 12/12. basically I just move the plants to another room thats already has budding plants in it. I just keep adding some over time so I am constantly harvesting. But yeah there is no need to change gradually.
