Buds drying prematurely on the stalk

Friend grew bag seed, from appearance likely vanilla kush, in a hydro system. All went well, flipped females 12/12 after about 9 weeks and for 4 weeks to 5 weeks the flowering went well, but after week six or seven, plant started to dry on the stem – as if no liquid uptake. Trichomes still white, so not really mature yet, but ended up in an early harvest because the plant self- cured.

This was his first hydro and had virtually no problems using General Hydroponics A and B as nutes. And plants seemed to do quite well, until the end.

Is the drying out due to nutrient lock? Should he have stopped nutes by week five and gone with a clear water flush for what would have been the last two or three weeks? Had great root systems.

Is flowering time to maturity of 6 to 8 weeks about right in a hydro system? For vanilla kush?

Thanks in advance!

I had a branch die on me once, and it was due to root damage. I would say that if the entire plant is going crispy without turning yellow and dying like normal then the plant is probably already dead.

Perhaps something really bad got into the res that resulted in instant death?

That's just my guess.

As for flowering time, I expect at least 8 weeks from the day I see the first pistils.

I'm thinking the same as Glaucoma…any chance something got into the res?

Also, you say the plant is dry "as if no water uptake". Is the plant drinking?

And you say "had" great root systems? What about now?

Ive had this happen before on isolated colas on a plant. I had no clue what to think as it was only one plant of several and one part on that particular plant. No other ill effects.
