Buds drying prematurely on the stalk

Friend grew bag seed, from appearance likely vanilla kush, in a hydro system. All went well, flipped females 12/12 after about 9 weeks and for 4 weeks to 5 weeks the flowering went well, but after week six or seven, plant started to dry on the stem – as if no liquid uptake. Trichomes still white, so not really mature yet, but ended up in an early harvest because the plant self- cured.

This was first hydro and had virtually no problems using General Hydroponics A and B as his nutes. And plants seemed to do quite well, until the end.

Is the drying out due to nutrient lock? Should he have stopped nutes by week five and gone with a clear water flush for what would have been the last tow or three weeks? Had great root systems. Is flowering time to maturity of 6 to 8 weeks about right in a hydro system?

Thanks in advance!

Did it dry out or did it get burnt (excess nutrients; nute burn)? Not sure what you mean by it dried up. If it got burnt to !@$# this has the appearance of the plant drying out. :peace:

Root rot would be my first guess. Are you running tables or buckets? I assume you verified the system was working properly. Since its dead, pull out that suckers roots and post a pic.

Dr. Who -- how so? didn't flush with water at the end but thought had a week or two left and found plants drying out really quick. Changed nutes every 14 days throughout pumping out the reservoir of five gallons and then replacing. So what do you mean dump and top off correctly?

First I'll ask. How big is the res? (then I can fairly answer yours).

Now I'll run my back-up play. How hot is the room temps? (over 70 can QUICKLY kill the roots off if the res temps get over that).

Res is 5 galls though you can force six. When I empty it is pretty empty though I am sure at least a quart remains. Temp is an issue for me always as surrounding room temp gets pretty hot sometimes. I do have a res cooler that helps, though sure it does get to 75 sometimes
