Budzbuddha or any other experienced growmie plz help! First time grower, autoflowers one doing ok the other one isn’t! Any advice I’m all ears

My first time growing and I have 2 auto flowers growing under the same factors ( same medium/ water amount) in 2x4 with sf2000 which is currently hanging at 20” from plants and at 80% power… from day 1 “fastbudSourDiesel” grew vigorously while the “sweetseedNycDiesel” took its time.. about day 14-15 is where things started going downhill for the nycdiesel with fading rust spots and yellow started to appear on the first set of leaves.. it’s now day 18 and plant appears to be dying! Need help identifying problem and considering if I should try to save it or just popping new bean …

just some info to help diagnose problems-
-Growing in 5 gallons
-50-50 FFOF on bottom FFHF on top .. with organic seedling starter in the middle to start
-watering 6.5 ph only used myko week 1 & 2 around base
-try to keep temps 77 with 65-70 humidity but sometimes heat can rise to 83 image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Cotyledons - small round leaves that are the first to appear on a small seedling, they are
not considered true leaves? and often fall off of the plant early in the growth stage.
Don't panic

Soil looks very wet and dense. Roots are drowning causing the yellowing. How much water how often? Did u pre soak the soil before planting?

It’s best to start autos in a low EC media to promote rooting.

Any slow down in an autos life will effect the yield.

If I were you I’d start another in seedling mix then start feeding 1/4 strength around 14 day mark.

Sometimes they can pull through tho but at the moment it ain’t ideal.

Good luck

The leaves that are yellow aren’t the cotyledons, the cotyledons was the very first problem those grew irregular and ended up going brown I clipped them off.. the leaves you see that are yellow are the first set that grew after the small circle leaves… thanks for your reply :)

I watered about 2 hours before picture, both plants are getting the same amount of water I’m currently at 500 ml everyday sometimes I may skip a day if it’s still moist on top.. I started at 100 ml and gradually increased over the days as they grew .. I spray the top of the pot with spray bottle after watered soil.. I cupped out the middle and used a organic seed starter when I first planted them & also I only pre moistened the bottom layer of soil

Thanks for the fast reply and advice! :)

Yea 500ml is a bit much every day. Every 3 days is what I do until they require more.

Let it dry back a bit then water again. Also use a root stimulant is essential for me for establishing a good root system quickly. They usually have no food so no risk of over feeding

Don’t water on a “ schedule “ … allow the medium to dryback a bit depending on how she drinks. Those leaves are an early set - dispensable . Raise the temps a bit. Looks like fabric bags - put them on risers / plastic crate so bottom of pot doesn’t stay soggy.

You will find plant is crawling because of cold rootzone and possible overwater.

Bump up temps and she will push forward.

Thanks for your advice! I’m going to let both pots dry out before watering again, and if NYC diesel doesn’t improve then I’ll tear it out and drop another , if I do that I can go right back to this same soil correct? Or should I re pot with some fresh soil and added perlite?

Soil is recyclable. Even after harvest - soil can be re-amended or “ recharged “ by mixing in some new soil or amendments .

Don’t let them fully dry out! With soil you want to keep it within a certain moisture window. Just wait 3 days then water again a few inches away from the base of the plant in a circle.

If I were you I’d fill a pot 1/4 full of ffhf then the rest seedling mix/perlite. Water every 3 days from sprout but adjusting the volume of water and don’t water directly at the base of the plant. Start at 250ml working your way up every week by around 250ml depending on the size of the plant.

Oh and use a root stim :D

Thanks so much for your reply and advice, your threads helped me out a lot during research and getting started! My tent can get up to 84 degrees should I allow it just for trying to dry the pot? I usually try to keep around 77.. yes they are fabric bags, I will put them on crates tomorrow! & allow them to start drying out.. I was under the impression of watering light everyday but 500 ml isn’t light :( … living & learning , will update thread after a week

Remember- it’s just a plant not much different than growing a houseplant. Water it as needed - feed it - light appropriately.

Sure you might have less than stellar grows occasionally but learn from it - basic gardening skills.
Cannabis can even be grown on tomato like fertilizer 5-5-5 or 4-4-4 all the way through to harvest. Falling for cartoonish bottles of cannabis “ nutes “ is how many new growers get trapped and disappointed because they do too much.

Keep shit simple and you will be fine.

Thanks I added that to my notes and will keep that in mind if I restart or just for future beans.. I don’t have much seed starter only had a small bag with a big bag of FF OF & HF.. I used solo cup amount of the seed starter, so to be clear you’re recommending about 75% of my 5 gallon being seed starter? And the bottom 25% HF? .. also is Mykos a good enough root stim?

thanks again for your advice :)

Do you know the EC of the seedling mix?

The whole point of a low EC is that the roots will search faster for nutrients/water. If the mix is too hot the root tips burn and don’t search nearly as fast and can’t easily be overwatered.

I use a mix with an EC of 1.2 and feed a low dosage around the 2 week mark. With a low EC media you’ll need to feed more as they get bigger/flower so keep that in mind!

Some seedling mix, good quality worm castings (5-10%) and mykos is a good start. Then water with just root stim until day 14. Then introduce some feed (1/4) strength and work your way up. Yellows at the bottom add more food. Curling tips and dark green back off for a watering or two then resume.

Use grow/bloom during stretch at 50/50 until flowers form. Then move to 25/75 grow/bloom. Once hairs are more orange than white switch to just bloom. Last week can give just plain water to save time/money

This is just a rough guide to what works for me

most definitely will keep thread alive & thanks for welcoming me as a newbie with open hands and taking the time to reply!

yeah I mainly wanted to stay away from nutes and grow all organically, that’s how I stumbled across your threads years ago my friend8-)

I’m here to stay:bigjoint:

Thanks I will keep that mind, it definitely makes since when you break it down like that. I’m not sure where to find the ec but I’m going to upload a picture of the seed start bag I got from my local nursery image.jpgimage.jpg

Hmm no EC there. It would be ideal for rooting though. Since autos only veg for 2-4 weeks before flowering you need to be as quick as possible to establish a robust root system.

Bigger roots = bigger fruits

Update pics Day 21!!! 3 days of drying out pots and to the eyes the top soil looks dry but when using 3-in-1 meter soil reads from heavily moist to moist in certain spots of the pot (FASTBUDSD) healthier of the two which is growing new growth by the day .. and the other is still giving readings of wet while plant is growing but slowly!! Should trim decaying leaves like the first set? To focus on new growth??
I’ve also planted a new bean straight into soil no paper towel germination just for experimental purposes.. how long roughly until sprout?? I know it takes much longer vs the 1-2 days I waited for a germinated seed..

Give it a couple days more for the fastbuds one, and maybe 4-5 days for the little one!

then water with 750ml (root stim if u get some) and see how they fair!
