You can put a 2" layer af sand on top of your soil. This prevents adults from burrowing in and laying eggs and the larve from getting out.Make yourself some habanero tea.You will need 5 habaneros, cut in half.Boil about 4 cups of water, then add the habaneros.Let this steep for about 30m-1hr.Strain it.Let it cool, then mix half in half with water and spray liberally, tops and bottom of leaves.Let it sit for 5 minutes, then rinse carefully.Don't get it in your eyes and do this OUTSIDE if you can.Hab tea is usually for spidermites but it works on any insects that would be on your plant.Buy some flypaper!GL.

would any kind of hot chilies do the work or does it have to be habanero?

first you have to determine what kind of bug it is. In general, fungus gnats dont hang around in the soil. If it is root aphids, youre in for a fight.

i wasn't the one who started off this thread but i got a similar problem..

i believe i have the "dark-winged fungus gnat".
a quick google search revealed quite a few of different organic solutions:
- eucalyptus oil
- cedarwood chips
- any citrus juice
- orange peel
- lavender oil
- vinegar
- tiger balm - not sure how organic this is but i guess leaving the balm open in the grow space can't do much harm to the plant..
- listerine mouthwash - same deal as the tiger balm
- and if u wanna go aussi - vegemite! lmao

don't mean to diss the chili method but i don't feel comfortable spraying hot chili juice on my lady while she flowers..

i'm gonna try them out and let u know..

Thanks for +Rep....it is hot as hell!...to answer the earlier question...YES,you can use any hot pepper, you can even add some pyrethrum drops for extra killing power,is just crushed flower juice! It's in flea and tick killer for pets.

@JonAk47 i've used this before. You can spray plants with big buds it don't matter as long as you rinse it off.Trichomes are oil based and will not wash off.GL

interesting.. so how would you rinse it off?
would you do it just after harvest or would you just spray it with water right beforehand?

so far i tried the eucalyptus oil, i had a bottle at home for some reason..
i just left the bottle open inside my closet and it seems to scare off those little flies..
it also gives out quite nice minty-like smell which helps with masquerading the strong AK47 odor.. two birds one stone(r)! :-)

Dude,my first grow, beginners bad luck:)I got spidermites....so I looked online for organic ways to get rid of them. The pepper juice spray worked,so its the only thing i used and only time I got bugs, thank god, knock on wood:).I'll tell you what I did.I put on my ski mask and respirator, put the infected plant in the shower.Spray it down, top and bottom of the leaves, being carefull not to drench your soil, just spray/mist on the leaves.Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then with the gentle shower setting on my showerhead, rinse it off.Remember when plants are outside they survive pouring rains,no problems.Anyway now I like to use foam plates to put on top of my soil or use the lids when I use buckets.Just put a hole in the middle to fit the main stem and fit the plate around the stem and on top of the soil.Photo06042117.jpgIts a bell pepper plant but you see what im saying.Just makes it harder for bugs to get in or out,i think.Hope this all makes sense and is helpful.Pm me if you got any questions.GL.peace
