Bulb strength question

How easily do 1000watt HPS/MH bulbs explode, or crack, or explode. I am wondering because i plan on just hanging bulbs and growing around them.Do i need some sort of light filter? Does anyone see any problems with this? Keep my plants 16" at least away from the light, and only grow 2.5' plants. Thanks to all

I've used hps and mh for years and never had one explode or crack. Did the same as you plan on that is hanging and grow plants around, no you do not need a filter.

they dont really. if anything they would burn out or blister, the only ones known to blister are sun pulse bulbs. make sure the bulbs are for vertical grow not just horizontal
