Cabin, Ventilation, Smell and Sound. (Get me this damn darling!)

Greetings, my dreams of having a secret cupboard built in the closet in my room and growing a plant without my family's knowledge still continue.

I was told that I could not do this without a carbon filter and fan. Because the smell of a single plant would cover the whole house. That's why I'm trying to get a fan and filter and reduce the noise to the most inconspicuous level.

I have designed something in my mind and I want to consult you dear friends whether it will work or not.

I will make a wooden cabinet from 1.8cm chipboard material. A hidden closet inside the wardrobe. The 160m3 fan will be completely inside the cabinet and its mouth will not be directly outside. I thought of an extra 10cm partition inside the cabinet and evacuated from there with a 12cm computer fan. I can also add an insulating material inside this 10cm hidden area if needed.

I'm considering Mars-Hydro TS600(100w) for the light.

Plant only 1 autoflower.

This TD Silent fan will be both inside the cabinet I built and in my main wardrobe. So 2 floors of cabinets. Do you think it makes too much noise even in this state? (22-24 decibel)

How little can be extended with Autoflower Scrog and LST? The cabin height is 100cm and when the 15cm filter+fan is removed, 85cm of space will remain. I think you'll need to keep the plants between 50-60cm max with Scrog and LST. I think I can achieve this as my light will be 100w.

Also, will I have a problem with the smell? Extra air freshener, incense etc. I'm thinking of supporting it.


Guys, my goal is to somehow meet my goddamn girlfriend and I'm in deep thoughts about it. If I didn't live with my family, I would love to live with a big tent, a great led and 4 autoflowers, but this is not possible in my family's house.

OK so a couple of things you can think about.

Google light baffles, your going to need them to stop light leak.

Use pc fans as air circulation around the plant, this is needed to stop rot, increase strength, remove micro pockets of heat and humidity ect.

I can't say about the noise with the td silent, some fans hum at a funny tone.
I can say my box fan which is 23db is silent when turned down by a variac.

Acoustic ducting , oversized, helps massively, oversized filter is also useful but obviously your working with limited space already.

I even use variable voltage power supplies on my pc fans to keep them quiet. Though I only use them for my drying tent these days.

Best of luck, I like to see stealth grows even if I don't need them myself anymore and technology has come a long way since I did.

Thanks for your comment, the only question mark in my mind is the smell problem. I don't know if I'll be able to do this without my family noticing. In fact, even if they notice, it's okay, I convince them np, they already know that I smoking and love it. They're not against it, but it might not be a pleasant feeling for them to know that I'm growing in their house. What do you think of the odor? Although there is 1 auto plant, a simple light and 160m3 carbon filter, will the smell spread throughout the house and attract people's attention? Nobody enters my room anyway, my windows are always open. My room might smell a little bit, that's okay, but my fear is that the whole house smells of marijuana.

Typically a quality carbon filter will remove smell.
Sometimes there's s little and when your not venting outside that can be noticeable.

If you use a filter bigger than required air goes through it slower, more contact time equals more smell reduction.

The other thing you can do is add another filter , so you draw through a standard filter and then have an inline filter as well or you add a filter at the end so sucking through one and pushing out of another.
This will reduce your fan efficiency but you should have more than enough cfm to do that.

Another option is adding ona gel at the exit point which attaches to stinky air particles , problem with that is you don't want that to come into contact with your bud because it can taint the flavour.
It likely will do too if your just venting into the room and recirculating air.

Another issue is the RH in the room, if it gets too high filters stop doing their job.
This shouldn't be an issue in an average sized room with such a small grow.

I assume your an adult and will take responsibility for your own actions should your folks find out.
If your not an adult I suggest you don't do this at all.

I've been in this situation a long time ago so I can sympathise.

Like most stealth grows its trail n error.

The smell will escape when you open the grow space. You will be required to touch the plants eventually, that will also smell. There's no way to grow without people in the same house knowing.

They don't even know the smell of marijuana. Are you saying that if you open the closet for a few minutes for watering and fertilizing, the whole house will smell? With so many people doing micro and stealth growth, I think there must be a way.

The smallest TD-Silent won't create a strong enough negative pressure to stop the smell from leaking out the door when you water. I've been micro growing for 14 years and the smell is the only factor that I've ever struggled with. My setup is inaudible, until I start harvesting, drying and trimming, it smells REALLY LOUD and I need to have a large inline fan and filter next to me when I'm doing all of that. If I ever touch a plant while watering, to reposition a branch for example, my spouse will instantly smell it few rooms away. You're free to try, but make sure you have enough money to rent an apartment once your folks decide to kick you out.

Having a stealthy setup in your own home is entirely different than doing it in someone else's place, you get used to the smells and stress, but hiding all of that from someone that you live with? Entirely different situation.

I agree with what you said. I just don't want to accept it because I love it so much and want to grow it. I'll be smoking this shit when I'm old and close to death. A few years ago, a friend of mine at university was growing more than 10 autoflowers in a giant tent in a room at his house. He placed them all together without leaving any space between the pots. His house was 2+1. He was using a room purely for growth. It had an estimated 380m3 of TD-Silent fans. We used to spend a lot of time in his living room, and for a long time he didn't tell us that he was growing marijuana in the room, and we didn't understand because it didn't smell. Finally he showed us the room and we saw 10 plants inside during the flowering period. Only the inside of the room smelled and it was not very intense, when I opened the tent, I felt that enchanting smell. I thought that if so many plants don't smell inside a house, only 1 plant doesn't. But like I said, it's just hope. I just want to believe it. I feel really helpless. The only thing I want is to live a pleasant life, laugh, listen to music, play games, live munchies and sleep peacefully, like any smoker. Even my sleep pattern has been messed up lately, I'm constantly waking up, tinkering with the phone, smoking, eating and going back to sleep. I need this damn thing just to get an uninterrupted sleep. When I drink it, I marvel at the quality of my sleep.

Anyway dude I know I've stretched this thread too long but I'm just sorry.

Just make sure to open the cupboard at night to take care and water your plant & have the windows open in your room so the smell goes away till the morning.

Use a variac. I have the exact same fan and with a variac it was completly silent and still performed excellent.

Make sure to buy a led light that you can dim if needed.

Buy your carbon filter from a reputable manufacturer and you will have no smell.

I talked to my father about this. He said that I could grow it on the terrace of the other house we used as a summer house, without exaggerating it. I no longer need a secret growl. I have no idea about outdoor performance, but if I can get 50 grams of 4 autoflower plants, 200gr is enough for me for 1 year.

I would say 12.5g per plant shouldn't be hard to get if they get enough sun.

I'd say the amount of smell varies quite a bit with different strains. Last time I had RQS Critical and the smell was quite tame, but before that some Dinafem OG Kushes smelled to high heavens every time you opened the door even just a bit. Even after drying and curing there was no way to package that bud that the smell wouldn't find it's way out.

Anyways glad to hear you got into agreement with your dad. But if it's not legal where you live, still take all the precautions. Good luck.
