Calcium Chloride???

My last grow was my first under my TS1000s. In the latter stages of flower I got some Calcium def on a few of the plants. I have a mate that is a chemist and he suggested using this as a source of calcium that would be instantly usable by the plant.

I know most people normally just reach for the CalMag. But I have no problems with Mg, just the Ca.

So can anyone see any problems with using Calcium Chloride? I was thinking using a tablespoon (18ml) per 5L, once a week, starting when they go in to flower.
 
haven't used it personally since i use well water. but why fix a Ca problem with cal/mag? n, ca, and mg.
 
Are you sure you were having Ca issues late into flower and not too much K or something?

This is exactly how I am thinking. I don't have a problem with N or Mg, so why would I want to add more? Also, CalMag is so damn expensive considering it is just Calcium Nitrate and Epsom Salts.

I think I am going to get some and see how it goes.

there is a guy/gal here that has used it and said it works perfect. wish i could remember or i'd tag him/her.

Nope, definitely Ca. Too much K was considered. I wasn't giving too much K to begin with, NPK 2-3-4 and it stopped progressing when I gave some calcium nitrate solution. But that led to a little N toxicity. When I spoke to my mate about it his first suggestion was too much K.

Fair enough, also water movement through the plant can greatly affect calcium uptake are your temps good?

Just weird seeing a cal deficiency late in flower is all at least to me
 
Yeah i used to farm tomatoes and used it on the more calcium hungry varieties like cherokee purple. I foliar fed with it like a teaspoon per gallon i think. it absorbs super easy on roots or leaves. I would spray seedlings every once in a while if I had a little leftover and it didn't hurt when they're like 10 inches tall...never used it on sprouts though. but yeah if you have calcium deficiency it will cure it.
 
Amino acid chelated Calcium Chloride is pretty popular in agriculture, I think one brand is called Gro-Cal, but most major fertilizer companies make it.
