California SB 847 Seeks Dispensary Restrictions Statewide

This is a State Level Bill.

Last month we reported on SB 847, a bill that would forbid medical marijuana dispensaries and collectives from operating within 600 feet of residential zones. This would greatly restrict the ability of medical cannabis patients to get their medicine, especially in California’s cities.
Americans For Safe Access sent out an action alert today to its members, urging citizens of CA to contact their state senators and call for a “no” vote on SB 847.
Americans for Safe Access (ASA) is calling on medical cannabis patients and supporters to oppose SB 847 today. ASA’s Online Action Center makes it easy to find your Senator and send a message right now.
SB 847 is burdensome. It is already hard enough for patients to organize and operate legal cooperatives and collectives. This new rule may make it almost impossible in some cities. Most medical cannabis patients rely on cooperatives and collectives for access to medicine, so onerous restrictions like this serve to choke off safe access. That is not what voters intended when they approved Proposition 215 calling on lawmakers “to implement a plan to provide for the safe and affordable distribution of marijuana to all patients in medical need of marijuana.”
SB 847 is unnecessary. Research conducted by ASA and more than fifteen years of experience with medical cannabis in California have taught us that sensible local regulations reduce crime and complaints. We do not need to usurp local control on medical cannabis. Instead, legislators should be cooperating with local government and other stake holders to adopt state laws that facilitate safe, reliable, and legal access to medicine.
Email your California Senator today and ask him or her to vote no on SB 847.
It’s time that politicians start listening to us, and start standing up for the sick people they are supposed to be helping. Share this story with everyone you know, especially if you live in California. Medical marijuana patients are punished enough. They are looked down upon by the federal government and called criminal because they choose a safer alternative to deadly pharmaceuticals.
Why should their access to the medicine that helps them be restricted in a supposedly compassionate society? Until bills like this cease to be, we cannot call ourselves compassionate as a nation, or as human beings.
Shamelessly cut and pasted without permission :)

Thank you for taking the time to contact my office. I always enjoy hearing the opinions and perspectives of my constituents, and I appreciate your getting in touch. Please know that my staff and I carefully review all incoming correspondence; however, due to the high volume of emails we receive – many of which are unsolicited and from people outside the 12th Senate District – we are not able to reply directly through our email system at this time.

That said, hearing from my constituents helps me ensure that I can represent you and your interests well in Sacramento, and I greatly value your input. For that reason, I encourage you to visit my website at www.senate.ca.gov/cannella and share your comments with me by filling out the form available through the “Contact Me” link. This process will ensure timely receipt of your important feedback.

Again, thank you. It is an honor to serve the residents of the 12th Senate District.

Anthony Cannella
Senator, District 12
