Can I cover the soil with the extra mylar I have?

Hey,
New here an looking for advice while trying to improve my closet grow. Have Mylar all around the ladies and have an extra square that would fit perfect along the soil with a hole cut for the stem. Seems like it would work but since I never see anyone else doing it there must be something I am overlooking.

Any thoughts?

makes it hard to water the plant
might keep soil from drying properly
not worth it because not much light hits the soil to even reflect off

But you could do it if you wanted

some people do it, i wouldent. imo it would be lot of hassle when watering the plants and i would rather be able to clearly see how wet/dry my dirt is

Even if you deal with the extra hassle of watering by removing the mylar completely and replacing it every time. And even if there was some reasonable amount of light to be reflected (to the "underside" of the leaves, by the way!). It's still not a good idea!

You would have mold and mildew and all kinds of nasty shit growing under the mylar.

^ this is true. i had aluminumfoil on top of my plants and the salt would build upp sooo fast.

A siple solution is Aluminium Foil Plates like this one



Cut a hole in the center OF THE PLATE for your stem ( about an inch should be good ) ... then cut from the edge OF THE PLATE to the stem hole .. Peirce a few holes all around the edge OF THE PLATE ... bend it and position round your stem ....It will sit on top of your pot ... pour your water into the tray and it will drip thru the holes ... Bingo

If you just want reflective ... White paper plates ..sorted

I use white pebbles. Reflects a bit and is easy to water through. Also, holds water in the soil.

Sorry, at first I read this.. and I read it wrong. I was thinking you were telling people to drill a hole into their plants main stem. LOL.. my bad buddy. I sincerely apologize for that.

Anyhow, seems like a fairly good idea.

LOL ... ohh yeah ... i drill all holes in all my shit dude .... adds about 3 lbs of bud over night ...try it lol
