Can I cut off fan leaves during veg?

My plant is about 18 inches high and has all sorts of new shoots that come out just under the fan leaves, however the fan leaves seem to be blocking the light for these new shoots and the stem from the shoot to the main plant are getting very long to get to the light.

I'm worried that if these shoots get to long trying to find light they will get weak and break during flowering.

If pics are needed I can post some no problem.

Open to all opinions and options.

Well I've never had space to grow my plants real tall so I guess you're on your own. I know I didn't strip mine until 2 weeks into flower and then I just cleaned up the bottom but I did LST and so I have no idea how regular growing goes.

But the new shoots come in under the fan leaves.. Once the new shoot has leaves of it's own is the fan leaf still needed for that shoot?

Also, if I take the shoot that is under a specific fan leaf and cut it for a clone. I might as well cut the fan leaf to right?

The fan leaves help the whole plant. How I look at is the day mother nature gets a pair of scissors and cuts off fan leaves is the day I will too

There are so many posts and articles on this topic. Fan leaves are good. Only trimming should be as mentioned above, clearing out the bottom after the plant is well developed. Otherwise, just lst for max light penetration

Plants are natural and wouldn't bear those limbs if they were not needed. FFS leave the shit alone and let it grow the way it's genetic code programmed it. Unless of course, you think you know better than mother nature itself.

I would leave the fan leaves on your plants.They are there for a purpose and they help nourish the plants.The more you work along with nature,rather than against her,the better off you will be and this goes for your plants also.

I agree with everybody that replied so far.
I'm doing my first grow, and cut a couple fan leaves on one plant before I read and learned not to, and it DID slow down the growth on that one noticeably.

The best solution is to LST your plant. By tying it down it's more stable to carry the weight and lets more light in. The only plant I am really worried about now is the one I did not LST. I have a couple of stakes in the ground around her but can't imagine they will be of much help once she puts on weight.

In this case, mother nature is correct. If you have never seen a side-by-side grow of a plant with/and without fan leaves then I am sorry. Your rude awakening is overdue, because I HAVE seen 4 side-by-side grows in my old warehouse stomping grounds. PLANTS WITHOUT FAN LEAVES FAIL MISERABLY IN THE WEIGHT DEPARTMENT. I dare you prove me wrong without pictures and video, because you cannot. Been doing this for two decades bro, you are incorrect on all sorts of levels.

EDIT: When I say a side by side grow, I mean clones from the same plant, in identical pots, with identical soils, and identical feeds. Have you done that? PROBABLY NOT.

Dude mother nature is the sun.. If you wanna get a grow light that slowly rises at one side of the plant an sets on the other over the course of the "light on period" then maybe don't worry about trimming any leaves.. But my light stays where it is an so do my plants sooo... Yeah I don't think removing the majority helps in my opinion but trimming a few fans to provide some extra light to lower foliage is not a bad idea I think

you can stick a thumb tack in the hard part on top of the rim of your pot. then just tie a soft string to the plant and tie it to the tack.or use pipe cleaners, the bendy fuzy wire.

i agree. i dont pluck the leaves unless it is being limited by like a corner of a tent. so in sog i do trim the corners but not for increase in yield but for convenience and organization but that lack of branch is filled in with a node already facing the light

Ya know ... This is a help site dude . A place to throw ideas around and receive feedback . That feedback should be constructive AND without the dickhead arrogant tone . It's uncalled for and there's SO many of you out there . Why? Childish . Simply childish . Asking questions is a way for people to learn . Why not help them . Not belittle them .
