yes, you can top at any time before flowering. Just cut the newest set of growth off, this will make the side shoots grow...

Depends, you should have at least 3 or 4 sets of fan leaves before topping. And yeah, you cut the top set off, but read the GROW FAQ before, it will help you out.

ok thanks, i got 7 of em 3 weeks in and to be honest ima gonna top some n start listing a few of em, best time to learn when you got more than ya light resorces can handle. thanx

It is advisable to top when you see at least three to four growth nodes. Find the newest growth and snip it off then you will shoot the growth hormone down and laterally to get side growth. If you accidentally dont take the whole new growth off and leave about 20% percent left then you have fim'd which will produce more top cola sites.
